Back before Hollywood studios like Warner Bros., Sony, Paramount, Universal and 20th Century Fox realized that you could actually make money off of adapting silly comic books into movies, there was a German producer by the name of Bernd Eichinger. He had the vision to see that comic books could become blockbusters and had his company purchase the film rights to the Fantastic Four from Stan Lee. One issue, his company didn't have the money to actually make a big-budget Hollywood film. So, in order to keep the film rights his company hired Roger Corman to produce it, as he was well known for making films on the cheap. The cast included: Alex Hyde-White as Reed Richards / Mr. Fantastic, Jay Underwood as Johnny Storm / Human Torch, Rebecca Staab as Sue Storm / Invisible Woman, Michael Bailey Smith as Ben Grimm, Carl Ciarfalio as the Thing and Joseph Culp as Dr. Victor Von Doom.

I gotta admit, i kinda like this movie. Yeah, yeah it is cheesy as hell but it is kinda fun and the thing looks better than the one in 2005 movie.

Agreed. You can see they were all passionate about the film and poured heart, body and should into its production. In an interview, Oley Sassone (the director) says he read every issue of the Fantastic Four Marvel Masterworks collection to understand the characters. Since there wasn't a lot of money, the emphasis was on plot and character arcs.

Despite its limited effects, there is a solid story and good performances in the movie. I hope there will one day be an official DVD release- perhaps with remastering and touch-ups on Doctor Doom's dialogue. Joseph Culp, the actor who played Doom, has said he'd love to re-record his lines- if given the opportunity .

Yeah I'd really like to see this movie even if it's an unfinished version. I like thinking about interesting movies that could have been. Superman lives is another one because it was so out there.

I know. I just wish that the producers of the Superman Lives documentary could get an interview with Nicholas Cage. Even though he's moved on and played other comic book heroes (Ghost Rider and Big Daddy), he would be interesting to talk to, especially about how he was chosen for Superman and how he would have played the character.

Perhaps he'd even provide insight as to the development process, those costume fittings he attended, how the project collapsed due to rising budgetary concerns, and why he chose to walk away….

And I hope they can at least give the original Fantastic Four of 1994 its due with a DVD release. The cast and crew gave it their all, the fans seem to like the intentions behind it (the limited VFX notwithstanding), and how its more faithful to the 616 comics than the films we got.

I could have sworn I saw an interview with Cage on the subject somewhere and it was fairly recent. Not sure if it was for the documentary though. I'll look for it.

Yeah I was so disappointed with the fantastic 4 movies we got. I'm looking forward to the reboot. I won't talk shit about it because we haven't seen anything. I need a trailer
