THE MANDALORIAN Star Pedro Pascal Reportedly Set To Play Mister Fantastic In FANTASTIC FOUR Reboot - CONFIRMED

Spider-Man: Far From Home star Jake Gyllenhaal has reportedly passed on playing Reed Richards, leaving The Last of Us star Pedro Pascal the new frontrunner to play Fantastic Four's Mister Fantastic...

UPDATE: According to Slash Film, ”After much speculation, wondering, fan-casting, and impatience, word has come out — and /Film's sources can confirm — that Pascal will be starring as Reed Richards, also known as Mr. Fantastic...the deal is done and should be announced soon."  Deadline, meanwhile, is a little less definitive but adds, "Insiders add scheduling is still being worked out but multiple sources close to the negotiations are saying its headed in the right direction for Pascal to do this and his other future projects."

The Fantastic Four rumours continue, and this time, it looks like Marvel Studios is finally close to casting Reed Richards, a.k.a. Mister Fantastic.

Spider-Man: Far From Home star Jake Gyllenhaal was recently said to be the frontrunner, with Matt Smith (Morbius) and Adam Driver (Star Wars) also potentially in the mix. Now, though, it looks like the role could go to The Mandalorian and The Last of Us star Pedro Pascal.

If accurate, this news is a massive win for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Pascal previously played the villainous Maxwell Lord in Wonder Woman 1984 and was a highlight in the otherwise hit-or-miss DCEU sequel.

In recent years, the actor's popularity has only increased thanks to memorable turns in the aforementioned TV shows and movies like The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent and Strange Way of Life. While an unexpected choice to play Reed, we've no doubt he'll be...well, fantastic. Of course, nothing is confirmed just yet but if he signs on, it sounds like an official casting announcement will follow.

John Krasinski played Reed in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, while Miles Teller and Ioan Gruffudd played the hero in 20th Century Fox's previous Fantastic Four movies.

This is the latest in a long line of casting rumours for the upcoming movie, so we appreciate many of you will likely roll your eyes at this latest update. Fingers crossed it sticks, though, because the sooner we get Fantastic Four in theaters, the better.

As of now, it appears Vanessa Kirby is a lock for Invisible Woman. Antonio Banderas supposedly remains in the mix to play Galactus, while Ebon Moss-Bachrach may end up playing either an unnamed Herald (The Fallen One and Terrax the Tamer are very real possibilities) or, considering the fact we're now hearing that character will be a female Silver Surfer, probably The Thing. As for the Human Torch, Joseph Quinn looks likely.

Director Matt Shakman has worked with both Avatar: The Way of Water co-writer Josh Friedman and WandaVision's Cam Squires on the latest draft of Fantastic Four's screenplay.

The movie is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on May 2, 2025.

@JFerguson - hijacking the top comment. As of now it's STILL A RUMOR, even though this article says confirmed. Idc if the casting is true, but I hope this isn't true just to see all those losers eat crow

bobevanz - 11/15/2023, 5:43 PM
If true, this is the laziest casting. I love Pedro, but this seems like casting just for ticket sales. Does Hollywood only have two choices for the leads nowadays? Chris Pratt or Pedro.. lmao

@bobevanz - What in the world kind of disconnected bs is this?! Marvel casts a big name and somehow it’s “lazy”? 😂😂😂 The shit talking is getting dumber and dumber by the day.

@Tonic24k - he's in everything, it is lazy dumbass. Maybe once, just once they hire a bunch of unknown people. You take the cake lol

Tonic24k - 11/15/2023, 6:55 PM
@bobevanz - Do you have any idea what a nonsensical conclusion that is?? “He acts a lot so it’s lazy casting…” Do you know what lazy means? Y'all throw that around mindlessly just like “woke”.

And honestly, negotiations with a bigger named actor is definitely harder than with a no name. So it’s really the opposite of lazy.

And like the other dude said. Eat your crow

@bobevanz - He wasn't in the Flash. He wasn't in Barbie. He wasn't in Wheel ot time, he wasn't in A Man named Otto, he wasn't in...I could go on. Your definition of everything is similar to the definition of "we are always fighting," when you're at the end of a bad relationship. No one is always fighting and Pedro isn't in everything. Don't begrudge the man a pay check.

Ryguy88 - 11/15/2023, 7:27 PM
@Tonic24k - its lazy because they got a guy who will do anything and is relatively well known instead of finding the best actor for the role. Seems like the ly didnt have anymore time and just went with the guy that's available now.
Tonic24k
Tonic24k - 11/15/2023, 10:01 PM
@Ryguy88 - And the argument gets dumber…

Has it dawned on you that he gets roles because he IS the best actor for the role?

Not to mention they’ve taken YEARS to cast the role. There’s been absolutely nothing lazy about this.

@bobevanz "he's in everything, it is lazy dumbass. Maybe once, just once they hire a bunch of unknown people"

I agree. Phase 1 was RDJ who was well-known but not a star. Norton was well-known but not a star. Chris Evans was known but not a star. Hemsworth was barely known and not a star. Scarlett was a bona fide star before though. And Sam Jackson who was very well known but never known as a star to connect all of the others to each other. Then they did pretty much the same for Phase 2 and 3 with the new characters introduced. They were all perfect for their roles. Pedro would be like hiring Tom Cruise to play Iron-Man or the Rock as Thor.
Ryguy88
Ryguy88 - 11/16/2023, 7:39 AM
@Tonic24k - they've taken years to cast this part and they keep getting turned down by the actors they really want. Now they are short kn time so they went with the available guy.

Hopefully this is for galactus and not reed.
Tonic24k
Tonic24k - 11/16/2023, 11:00 AM
@Ryguy88 - You don't know that at all. You're going off of rumors and speculation. And "going with the available guy" isn't how you cast big roles. The guy is an incredible actor. It no doubtably took a lot of conversations, auditions, and negotiations. This is how the industry works.
Ryguy88
Ryguy88 - 11/16/2023, 11:06 AM
@Tonic24k - it's no secret that they have struggled casting this role, and actors including Driver and Krasinski would not sign on despite offers. You would be naive to think it's all gone to plan and this was the guy they had their sights set on from the start.
Tonic24k
Tonic24k - 11/16/2023, 11:11 AM
@Ryguy88 - It's clear you don't know how this process works. You've really gotta stop acting like you know things. Just like how you made up the Feige quote and it not being true.

Now, show me where Driver officially turned down the role (not rumors and speculation). Also show me where Krasinski did this despite saying in an interview he'd love to continue playing the character.

YOU would be naive to think casting is based on someone a studio had their sights set on from the start. It's a PROCESS. It consists of auditions, screen tests, sometimes stage chemistry, and A LOT of negotiations.
Ryguy88
Ryguy88 - 11/16/2023, 11:16 AM
@Tonic24k - I didnt make up the fiege quote or all of the reports of offers going out to actors only to be turned down due to alleged script problems. Even the original director walked out on this. Hopefully we dont have another misguided bomb on our hands here.
Tonic24k
Tonic24k - 11/16/2023, 11:34 AM
@Ryguy88 - Again, go find the facts and then talk about it. As of now, you don't have any facts. You're either making shit up or echoing something already made up.
Ryguy88
Ryguy88 - 11/16/2023, 11:42 AM
@Tonic24k - I have opinions and I've read reports. What do you have?
Tonic24k
Tonic24k - 11/16/2023, 11:44 AM
@WarMonkey - Um what? Lol. RDJ was a star before he went to jail. People heavily scrutinized the casting decision and it turned out he was was the best possible casting for the role. Norton was also popular. Evans was rising and had already played Human Torch. Hemsworth was the only one somewhat unknown. And it's odd we just breeze past Scarlett and SLJ. They were huge stars and both extremely popular. Event he comic book character was created in SLJs likeness long before these films.

And Pedro Pascal is popular but NOWHERE near Tom Cruise or the Rock. But even if he was, what is this weird notion that that's a bad thing?? There is no rationale behind unknown names being better casting choices. This argument just has no merit whatsoever.
Tonic24k
Tonic24k - 11/16/2023, 12:09 PM
@Ryguy88 - You have very ill informed opinions. And you have no defense to that. The burden of proof is on you because you're making the claims. But also, I've been in filmmaking for 4 years and know firsthand how the process works. That is why I'm telling you it's clear as day that you have no experience with this to talk like you know about it.
Ryguy88
Ryguy88 - 11/16/2023, 12:40 PM
@Tonic24k - what have you been informed by? what do you do in the industry?
WarMonkey
WarMonkey - 11/16/2023, 1:35 PM
@Tonic24k - So you agree with me on some and you're wrong about a few of those. RDJ was well known but was not a star when he was cast. I know because I was a fan of his before Iron Man and he was never cast as a leading man in a big movie, he was basically a character actor. I was also a big Evans fan, his best role is in Sunshine FYI, and he played 5th fiddle to other actors more known than he was including a tv actor. I never said Norton wasn't popular, I was a fan of his too. He was not a star though and still isn't. Scarlett was brought in cause she was already an action star but was inserted in Iron Man 2 to give gravitas for a side-character that would be expanded on later, as a Hollywood strategy for an easy way to get the audience to like the character quickly. Sam Jackson wasn't a star but he was a very well known and respected character actor just like he still is. And just like the rest, excluding Scarlett, never led a movie as the star that would sell seats. Closest he came was Snakes on a Plane.

BTW when I think of star I think of the actors that can sell a movie or show simply based on their names regardless of the role, story, property or franchise and do it consistently in multiple movies over their careers. Like a Denzel Washington or Ryan Reynolds type. Remove the Avenger movies from their resumes and they all are still not stars, excluding Scarlett. Leading a movie or two and being a star are not the same thing. I would say Pedro is a star now, almost the whole industry is using his name to sell their products.

I didn't breeze past Scarlett BTW, I said "bona fide"!!!

OleBobbyTiger
OleBobbyTiger - 11/15/2023, 6:32 PM
@Tonic24k - Keaton was supposed to be a bad Batman. Downey a bad Iron Man. Evans a bad Cap. Craig was going to be a horrible Bond. Ledger was an absurd choice for Joker. Elba will be a bad Heimdall.

We've heard this nonsense so many times. It's almost like professional casting directors are better at casting than fans. Call me crazy.
ComicBandit

Tonic24k
Tonic24k - 11/15/2023, 10:05 PM
@Ryguy88 - Do y’all NEVER learn? How many times have folks jumped to conclusions trying to say so and so actor isn’t right for the role and then they become the definitive version of that character?

Stop with the stupidity, please.
Ryguy88
Ryguy88 - 11/16/2023, 7:41 AM
@Tonic24k - with all of the roles pascal has played, which one in your opinion do you think he showed he can be Reed Richards?
Tonic24k
Tonic24k - 11/16/2023, 10:57 AM
@Ryguy88 - Do you not know how acting works? Good actors can play different personas. It's the actor's job to read the script and bring that character to life. It involves a lot of development.

This is like when people cried about Evans being Human Torch prior so they couldn't see him as Captain America.
Ryguy88
Ryguy88 - 11/16/2023, 11:01 AM
@Tonic24k - and I'm arguing he doesnt have it for this role based on everything I've seen him in.
Tonic24k
Tonic24k - 11/16/2023, 11:04 AM
@Ryguy88 - and I'm arguing we've seen this too many times to think an actor of his prestige can't do his job with a big studio that hired him for a specific role.

Folks did this with RDJ, Evans, Hemsworth, and more. Again, it's a situation of "how are y'all not learning?"
Ryguy88
Ryguy88 - 11/16/2023, 11:09 AM
@Tonic24k - hemsorth was a new comer, Evans was untested but looked the part and RDJ was always bang on.

Plenty of miscastings too, but if you only focus on the good ones it helps support your narrative better ;)
Tonic24k
Tonic24k - 11/16/2023, 11:22 AM
@Ryguy88 - That's incorrect. RDJ was a heavily scrutinized decision in the very beginning. Everyone was clamoring for Tom Cruise. In this VERY site there are old comment sections you can look up from 2007 acting JUST like some of you are right now about Pascal. Y'all gotta learn this is just a running in circles
Ryguy88
Ryguy88 - 11/16/2023, 11:25 AM
@Tonic24k - you're just talking to me, no need to call me y'all.

And if there was scrutiny over RDJ it was minimal. What was the criticism about specifically?
