Third Conan Hopeful Revealed!

Come on in to see who it is!

Earlier in the week, it was reported that "Twilight"'s Kellen Lutz and "Stargate: Atlantis'" Jason Momoa were among the top choices to star in the upcoming "Conan" film. There was also a third choice that was unmentioned...until now.

It is being reported that the star of "Supernatural," Jared Padalecki is also in the running for the leading role.

Directing Conan is Marcus Nispel, who worked with Jared on the 2009 horror flick "Friday the 13th."

ecksmanfan: This is an interesting choice. He's got the height they are looking for and with a little work, he could bulk up. My worries are whether he's got the acting skills. He's improved greatly since starting on "Supernatural" but he still has a long way to go.

Worried that he has the acting skills? Were talking about conan right? Made famous by Arnold? Not sure acting is a must for this role, that being said he's too small.
superdog
superdog - 1/16/2010, 8:09 PM
Oh, and there's another actor on supernatural other than jensen ackles? Huh, never knew that :)
ecksmanfan
ecksmanfan - 1/16/2010, 8:14 PM
@Superdog- POint taken. I guess I am just being hopeful that if people are going to redo movies, they should at least try to make them better. Small as in build? He has bulked up in the more recent seasons of Supernatural, so I think with some work, he could actually buff up.
Hawksblueyes
Hawksblueyes - 1/16/2010, 8:18 PM
Whoever plays Conan needs to be big. I don't think they will be able to get away with just bulking up.
superdog
superdog - 1/16/2010, 8:23 PM
Hawks@ that's my point. It can't just be some cut dude who adds a few pounds. He really needs to be swarzeneggar size.

Ecks@ I agree they should always try to get good actors regardless of the type of movie it is.
bleedthefreak
bleedthefreak - 1/16/2010, 8:28 PM
this movie should remain untouched but again whatever and Arnold wasn't the greatest actor but he made it a true classic like most movies he did i just cant stand this guy i want to hit him in the face with a tomahawk

DogsOfWar - 1/16/2010, 8:30 PM
Thats a lot of HGH to get to Conan size!

I don't know why this guy gets so much flack for his acting. He's not some great thespian, but he's a decent actor.

superdog: I agree completely. Anything less and you have any of a thousand sword and socery movies. Conan being huge and almost superhumanly strong and relentless is what sets him apart from the rest of the genre.

Threw this together. Please tell me why we are going to tv quality actors for this epic role? I am an artist so I guess I go for artistic renderings of my favorite artists. Frazetta painted Conan as you see him in these and it works. He is an older man who has been through many battles and is simply HARD AS CUSS. He would kick your cuss, break you in half, then continue to the guy behind you then the next and so on. They need to think outside the box on this one. If I were the director I would try an actual hard as cuss man. Someone who actually fit the bill. Then direct him exactly how I need him.

I FOUND HIM! Here is my "dream" actor to play Conan. Hes not an actor just yet but he did play one of the main reanimated cyborgs from the universal soldier.

Andrei "The PitBull" Arlovski (born February 4, 1979 in Minsk, Belarus) is a Belarusian mixed martial arts fighter and a former Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight champion. He grew up in minsk so I assume hes russian. Not sure if he can speak english but I hope he can.

p.s. I just tweated Andrei and told him to audition :D would be sweet if he got the part!

You need to read the scoops from about a month ago. You're missing Twililght's Daniel Cudmoore and that other Arnold Clone

ecksmanfan - 1/17/2010, 1:17 AM
@DeadWebHead- Yeah, I looked into those and from what I can tell, they've been put down, so-to-speak, so I didn't include them. The 3 mentioned are the ones seriously being considered.

ok ok ok.....you want a quality actor with the physique of a mr universe winner to replace a plank of wood with said physique....wow.
now i am a very big fan of the big austrian plank of wood and i love BOTH conan movies yes..both.
i think a majority of you need a very big reallity check.
if padlecki is told now he will play conan and they start filming in say october he could easily gain more than enough muscle to play a muscled barbarian who says KROOOOOM!! alot
get a grip please
end transmission..........

@shifty if this starts filming in October and Supernatural gets another season you can be sure that Jared won't do it. His loyalty is with the show.

Arnold was muscles first and acting second. We need the same thing again. If the person can act they get a gold star.
theartofoneness
theartofoneness - 1/17/2010, 10:36 AM
I think that formula was standard in the 80's Betty but that isnt the case now. The action hero has shifted its meaning. I think muslces is a must for this character but the type of muscle training gives its look. Ive known MMA fighters and they are tough. Bodybuilders are pussies. They only want their muslces to look good so they arent bread for combat but for posing. I think we need someone in there that actually looks like they are ready for combat.

how about the guy from Pathfinder??

or

the guy who played collossus?
Betty
Betty - 1/17/2010, 11:14 AM
theartofoneness-- I completely agree with you. The problem is that EVERYONE is going to compare whoever gets the part to Arnold. So unless the script is a masterpiece, which I doubt, they will have to find someone physically comparable to Arnie.

Just watched that god awful movie Year One. The one stand out was Matthew Willig the guy is huge.

The one thing I love about the first Conan is the movie is almost silent. The less lines for Conan the better he is a man of action.

He may be too old for the main part of Conan but there must be something for him

gtrman-- Plain and simple, I like it.

What about that huge guy that Achilles killed?
ecksmanfan
ecksmanfan - 1/17/2010, 12:28 PM
@Betty- That's Nathan Jones. He is a wrestler turned actor and he is a brute! He is all action no talk. I don't think I've heard him talk much in the films he's been in.

I guess I am just setting my expectations too high for this film. I really don't think any one of those that aer up for the role are good for the part. I have a feeling that regardless of who they get to fill the role...it will be an "iffy" movie at best.

christ almighty, the conan movie with arnold was waaaaaaaaaay off base, if at least decent enough. the leaked script for the new one sucks to the point of being staggering. gaping plot holes, they turned conan into a psychopath. now this crap casting. they need to find a young charles bronson. someone who is handsome but not these abercrombie mangirls.

it kills me too to see people reference conan the barbarian with schwarzenegger as being what made the character. because THAT was NOT Conan. If you did like that movie seek out the basis of the character, the work of Robert E. Howard. The Darkhorse Comics are doing a decent job of adapting too. But for God's sakes, it's not the movie Conan the Barbarian. And it sure as horse mierde won't be this drivel. They should not be trying to find a new Arnold, they should be looking for Conan.
shiftysharp
shiftysharp - 1/17/2010, 2:13 PM
this season is the last in this story arc and they are not sure if they are gonna do another season for a while so i would imagine we will see him and ackles in a movie or two over the next couple of years.
im not saying he is the best for the role but i wouldnt be suicidal if he got it
