It has been heavily rumored that negotiations have been underway with actor Orlando Bloom to reprise his role as Legolas in The Hobbit. COLLIDER caught up with Bloom during the press day for Sympathy for Delicious and asked him directly about the possibility.

Are you going to appear in The Hobbit?

Yeah, it’s looking like that. I’m really excited about going to see Pete [Jackson] again. It’s still a little up in the air, but the idea of working with Pete is fantastic. I can’t actually really talk too much about it, at this point. I just was given the script to piece through, so it’s quite exciting.

The whole script?

Yeah!

There is no telling how big his role will be. It was stated over a year ago that this film would follow Gandalf during his absence from the rest of the group.

His journey during this time is not touched upon in the book but is alluded to in the LOTR films more than once. So, besides the exploits of Bilbo and his band of dwarfs we could see a bunch of new material that would essentially set up LOTR.

Probably the only role in which I've ever enjoyed Orlando Bloom's work. Always comes across as a bit whiny in anything else I've seen him do.

Great find!. I loved these movies and cannot wait to see how they link the Hobbit to the rest of the movies.....these movies were classics the moment they hit theaters.

PETER JACKSON's NEXT PROJECT= JLA!!!

Check out my editorial on why i think PETER JACKSON's formula could give us the JLA that we could have.

If I'm hearing this right, and one of the two films will be telling the story of where Gandalf was during his absence in The Hobbit, I have no problem at all with Bloom and other LOTR characters showing up. It could make for a really interesting movie and elaborate on an important part of Middle Earth history that is alluded to in The Hobbit or LOTR. I just hope these new films are good.

comicb00kguy: From what I remember reading (and this was a while back mind you) the film could swing back and forth between Gandalf "errand" and Bilbo's journey, much like the other films did with Frodo And Sam as opposed to Gandalf and Aragorn.

Legolas was one of the Mirkwood elves, so we can expect to see him in Thranduil's hall as well as the Battle of Five Armies.
