SPOILERS! Story Details for CW's Reboot of BEAUTY & THE BEAST Reveals Bizarre 9/11 Connection

In September it was announced that CW would be rebooting the 1987 cult television series Beauty & The Beast, and now we have a ton of new details.

In the 1987 series Catherine Chandler was a wealthy socialite working for her father's law firm in NYC as a corporate lawyer. She is attacked one night, tossed into a van and has her face slashed. She is warned to keep her mouth shut, and is finally dumped in Central Park where Vincent (The Beast) finds her. He scoops her up and takes her into his world, tunnels underneath the city. He mends her wounds and looks after her for ten days until she has fully recovered. During this time Vincent realizes he has an empathic bond with Catherine.

Once recovered Catherine returns to her world, but she dramatically changes her life for the good. She quits her job, and becomes an investigator at the DA's office. One of the driving forces in her life is to discover who assaulted her, and as time goes and she gets closer to answering that question she is attacked again. This time Vincent feels her fear through their bond and rescues her. The Beast returns to his shadowy world and she to her own.

So, what's in store for the 2012 CW rebooted version of Catherine and Vincent? Movie Hole has the scoop on all the details. First off, the story will begin with Catherine as a child, and it is her mother that is attacked in a suspicious car-jacking. It is at this moment in time that Vincent first appears and saves the young girl from certain death. She will claim that a "Beast" saved her life, but of course no one will believe a child's wild claims.

Fast forward into present day and the ramifications of that terrible event have had quite a toll on Catherine's life. She is single, unable to keep a steady relationship. Instead of being a corporate lawyer as Linda Hamilton's character was in the 1987 version, this Catherine will be a NYC cop. When she encounters Vincent again it's because she is investigating the death of a young woman. She follows a lead to an abandoned warehouse. She is looking to speak with a man named, T.J., whose car was at the scene of the crime.

At the warehouse she comes across T.J.'s roommate, who happens to be "The Beast." He hides behind the shadows, but soon reveals his beastly self. She remembers him from her traumatic childhood incident and immediately trusts him that he nor his roommate had anything to do with the death of the young girl she is investigating. He admits he tried to help the girl, and Catherine promises to keep quiet about his whereabouts.

Vincent worked as a doctor at the New York University hospital – and was working On September 11, 2001 when the towers came down.

Long story short, a wounded Vincent ends up in a medical clinic where he’s injected with a DNA-changing drug. The drug turns him into an unstoppable soldier type that is used in Afghanistan. Think ‘Captain America’ or a ‘Universal Soldier’. Unfortunately, the strength and stamina comes with a price…it also changes Vincent’s look — in particular, hair sprouts hair everywhere.

When he returned from Afghanistan, looking like he is, he hid himself away- – with the help of T.J. - Movie Hole

If you'd like to read more details about the show please visit Movie Hole. There you can find out more information on Catherine's friend, Evan, and her younger sister slash roommate, Heather. Also, Movie Hole gives their very positive and well detailed review of the pilot episode.

I myself don't know if I can so easily give high marks to a show that will use the events of September 11th as a gimmick in the show. For me that is a low point, and it will be hard to embrace the show. But, if Movie Hole is right, than CW might actually have a hit on their hands. Which is something CW has struggled with for a long time, so good for them.

I don't care about this, but having that 9/11 connection is just lazy on the writers' part and overall bad taste.

Sounds like crap, but will check it out. I loved the original series and both Ron Perlman and Linda Hamilton were great in it. If this new story is any good, perhaps we'll get cameos of Perlman and Hamilton. I just know that if the first episode stinks, then you can forget this being a series.

I don't like the 9/11 connection, it's very distasteful and the families of the tragedy probably hate Hollywood for bringing it back up all the time. Give it a rest and stop bringing it back on the screen every couple of months. How would you like it if your parents or your family member was killed in some horrible way, and Hollywood kept showing that same event ALL the time. You would be very upset too!

What the [frick] is this? Arrow and this shit? Were exactly are they going to place these shows? They better not cancel Nikita or Supernatural for any of this shit.

This is UNHOLY! There was NOTHING WRONG with the original show. WE DON'T NEED A HALF-ASSED REMAKE! And I'll bet you anything they'll just use REALLY crappy CGI for Vincent, too! Where's the underground world from the original show? Are they really getting rid of EVERY fantasy element from this story just so that can avoid making this remake into a Twilight wannabe? All I can say to those CW jackasses is this:

RE: Grifter- That's a pic from the original show, btw. And that's because he was played by Hellboy himself, my man Ron Perlman! That was his first acting gig!

Yeeeeeeaaaaaaaaah, I'm not watching that. The terrible event has taken quite a toll on her life but she becomes a cop? I don't think so. No sale CW, I'll stick with well written shows.

Damn, so how old is Vincent if he was a doctor during 9/11 almost 11 years ago?And Catherine has to be pretty young if she was a child when he saved her, which was less than 10 years ago.

And I know 9/11 is still fresh in people's memories, but is it really lazy to use it as a plot device in TV/film?I mean, think of all the other tragedies and disasters that are used as the basis or in the background of stories.

Treme is based around Hurricane Katrina, a lot of the backstory of The Boys is based around 9/11 and I can't count how many things have used the Holocaust as a part of their story.

I honestly don't think it's lazy.Yes, it's a recent tragedy, but that doesn't make it cheap or lazy to use it as part of a story.Only if it's deliberately obscene or trying to play on people's sympathies.

That sounds incredibly stupid.

I remember watching the old series with Perlman and Linda. It wasnt my favorite thing to watch as a young kid, but at least it was kind of elegant and poetic.

This just sounds [frick]ing retarded.

Yeah, CW are probably gonna frick this up. I don't like the 9/11 part because its a crap idea. They are going to reference the heck out of 9/11 for ever. Just like all those movies about Pearl Harbor ten years or less after that happened. Get over it.
