Green Lantern Corps: Sins of the Star Sapphires
In this movie Hal Jordan has returned to Earth after years in space. Most of his friends assumed he was dead, he lost his job in the Air Force and was declared MIA, and there’s a mountain of bills waiting at his apartment. While Green Lantern is a hero, Hal Jordan is considered an unemployed partier who commonly disappears for months only to return with little or no explanation for where he's been. Green Lantern personally knows everyone in the justice league, Hal Jordan is a screwup.
One of the other things we deal with this movie, as it involves star sapphires, is love. The love between Hal and Carol and the creepy obsessive predatory love of Carol by Hector Hammond.
This movie also has a John Stewart b-story involving the character fatality, which will do a bit regarding redemption, and tie into the green lanterns over all past mistakes
New Characters:
Carol Ferris: She's a businesswoman. It's been over two years since she saw Hal, and thought he was dead. she's realistic, and although she hoped he was alive, she didn't want to set herself up for failure. When she first met Hal she tried to be professional but he brought out her fun side. When she gets the star sapphire ring, her constructs are very crystalline and spiky. Partly the nature of the ring, partly her innate desire to destroy things with mace like objects.
Hector Hammond: A man filled with regret, and hunger for any emotional connection. He’s been driven insane by his captivity in Belle Reve penitentiarery, and within his own vegetable body. He's a predator, he will take everything he can get his hands on within your own mind, taking everything from you from the inside. He wants your memories, and your emotions, because he can no longer feel anything without someone else's mind. Creepy yet tragic.
Kroloteans: A race of geneticists and weapons scavengers that travel from world to world trying to create living weapons, and capturing each worlds weapons to study and integrate into their technology.
We begin the film in Hal Jorden narrated flashback, like the first movie. We see Hal’s pre green lantern life, being a cocky pilot and ending up crashing a ferris air plane. Back at the hanger, nerdy engineer Hector Hammond tries to ask Carol out, but she tells him she doesn't date co-workers. Narrator Hal informs the audience that later that day was win he finally convinced Carol to go on a date with him. Hector saw this leaving work, gets mad, and leaves in his car to go home, when he’s abducted by aliens.
Cut to today, with Hal returning to earth after years protecting the galaxy. After learning he was evicted from his apartment in Coast city and a family has moved in, he heads to Carol’s. He tries to get a job as a pilot for the planes at ferris air, but the insurance companies said they wouldn't insure the planes if he ever came back as a pilot, so she gets him a job as a mechanic, and he stays at her place.
flashback to a young John Stuart ( different hair cut, cgi out any wrinkles) he and Tomar-re are investigating a threat by cult followers of Darkseid on the planet Xanshi. John wakes up. He’s on a cliff, in complete, absolute darkness. Nothing is seen except him, and the light of his ring around him. He’s got a bit of a beard. Cut to a month earlier. The green lanterns have discovered signs of strange activity coming from a rogue planet, a world with no sun, blocked from the stars by a dust field over the atmosphere, and the area around it. Ships disappearing, strange creatures. John and Soranik are sent to find the truth, and destroy whatever is out there. No other lanterns can learn of the other corps.
Two weeks ago John lost Soranik in the darkness. He hasn't seen or heard her since. His rings radio hasn't worked since he entered the worlds atmosphere. His ring is on low power mode Only essential functions. He lost his lantern shortly after arriving. He's using his ring for light, and to record a log, in order to avoid going insane. All he knows is something else is on the planet with him. He's heard things. Voices, calling for him, calling for flesh.
Meanwhile, an alien spaceship heads towards our solar system. On Earth, Hal goes to his brothers house to pick up a box of his stuff sent to them by his former landlord. Hal explains to his brother he's been having a hard time adapting to Earth life after his time fighting in amazing intergalactic battles and seeing impossible views no other human has ever experienced. Everything else is dull now. Him not being able to use planes doesn't help. The ring is great, but he's always loved planes. He tries to fly off into space, but his ring shuts off when he tries to leave earth's atmosphere, nearly killing him when before he can reactivate it. At home, in private, Carol has begun to break down and cry. She thought Hal was dead, and now he's back.
Then, Hal and his brother hear about a shark attack in the city, at the beach Hal’s nephew is at for a birthday party from the tv. Also, numerous people have been going missing in Coast city lately. Hal turns into Green Lantern to fly off and see if he's okay, when he arrives at the beach, it's revealed the attacker is not a shark, but a man-shark monster. Hal saves his nephew from the land shark, and fights it in the water, eventually capturing it as the military arrives. The Shark is sent to Belle-Reve. We see an alien spaceship resides at the bottom of the ocean. At ferris air, it's been discovered by Carol several experimental planes have been mysteriously stolen.
On the dark planet, John wanders a Wasteland in search of Soranik, when his ring, finally out of energy, shuts down, he is in utter blackness. Until after several hours, he sees a light. A green light on the horizon. He believes it's his power battery, and discovers he's right. But it's a trap. He is immediately captured by the alien woman known as fatality. He is then bathed in the light of her landed ship, which un-Cloaks behind her. She reveals to John she is the last survivor of the planet Xanshi.
Later Hal goes on a date with Carol at a beachside restaurant and begins to finally be okay with earth life. They go for a walk on the beach, reminisce about a joy ride on one of Carol’s companies jets after their first date, but suddenly, Hal's flip phone(he hasn't had time to buy a newer phone since he became a lantern) rings, and it's Amanda Waller, who tells him that Hammond is asking for him, claiming to have valuable information on The Shark. The government has all the Earth green lanterns secret identities through spying, and is interested in speaking with the Guardians. It is revealed the the reason Hector is in prison involved kidnapping Carol and mind controlling all of her and Hal's co workers at Ferris air in an attempt to murder Hal Jordan. Hal flies off.
Meanwhile, as Carol is left on the beach, a violet ring within the spaceship(hidden beneath the sea) is attracted to her love, breaks through the alien ship, and attaches itself to Carol, turning her into a violet lantern. She returns to her apartment, and realized she has similar powers to Hal now. She tries to test out her ring, ending up with a version of the comics Star Sapphire costume. She considers superhero names, and decides on Star Sapphires. She can work alongside Hal now. She then accidently envelopes herself in an energy crystal. She becomes trapped in the crystal, as it shows her memories of her time with Hal, leading up to their last meeting before he left for space. After the Sinestro Corps War, he returned home. He told Carol about what happened, everyone who died, then later that night, he left while she was sleeping. She never got to say good bye, and after what he told her, he could very well have died up there in space. Then it starts again. She can't get the ring to stop. It's alien technology. She has no idea how it works. She relives the same memories over and over again, slowly going insane, before finally, after what feels like years, learns to use her ring like an expert, breaking free after a million consecutive revilings of every memory of Hal. She is now insane, and wants to kill Hal Jordan.
Hal heads to Belle Reve to speak to Hector, and is told by Amanda Waller Hector has been continually getting stronger since he was first captured and they have to constantly increase the power on psychic dampener. Hector he claims he knows where the shark came from. It was a real shark once, but it was evolved, by the same beings who evolved him. Hector now wants Hal to remove his psychic blocker, so Hector can have a precious memory involving Carol as payment for his help. Hal refuses, Hector starts being creepy about how he wants Hal’s life and Carol should have chosen him, and Hal leaves. Also, Captain Boomerang or Deadshot cameos, whatever actor you can get.
Flashback, Tomar-Re and John search the planet for the Darkseid cult, tracing them to a core mine on the planet. Tomar -Re is trapped by an earthquake, and John is told to wait for backup, but decides to keep moving. He hits a trip wire, and the bomb placed in the planet's core goes off. Tomar -re and John are protected by their energy shields, but the entire planet of Xanshi is destroyed. 8 million lives snuffed out in an instant.
Now, John is in Fatality’s ship, tied up. She explains she has spent years training, preparing, and finally hunting Green Lanterns. She explains that she had been off world when her planet was destroyed, and after hearing what happened, decided to kill him. Her family, friends, and everyone she loved died. So, she captured and killed green lanterns one by one, interrogating them to learn who was responsible for the destruction of Xanshi. She took the name: Fatality, and after years of searching, tracked John to this planet. She found his lantern flying over the planet searching for him. She doesn't know what happened to Soranik though.
John asks for forgiveness. He's regret what happened every day. He still has nightmares about it. Fatality hesitates, then the lights go out. Something has shut down the engine.
At Belle Reve, guards prepare to hose down the immobile Hammond for his bath, when he takes control of a guard's mind, revealing his power has increased to the level the current anti psychic devices no longer work. He has the guards try to release him, knowing the aliens will be here for him soon. They told him they would return when they first changed him. The aliens arrive, and take Hammond away, beaming him up back to the spaceship.
On the ship, Hammond discovers that the aliens of kidnapped others, and also have various earth weapons, like the planes from Ferris. They also have various weapons from other worlds. Hammond fights back against the aliens trying to sedate him, eventually sending out a psychic shockwave. He realizes he is now so powerful he can beat the aliens, and uses telepathy and telekinesis to destroy the ship and kill everyone inside.
Hal is searching for the alien ship in the sea below Coast City, when he receives another call. He learns that aliens abducted Hammond, but the alien ship crashed in the swamp near Belle Reeve. Everyone and everything inside is dead, but Hammond has not been found. He’s most likely loose, and will probably come to Coast city for Carol.
Hal heads back to Carols, and finds the apartment destroyed. He fears the worst, and finds Carol's body. The body is revealed to be a hologram made by Carols ring, and she appears in full Star Sapphire costume to kill him.Hal fights back, confused, believing Hammond has done something to her. She explains this is his fault, she hates him, and is going to ruin his life then kill him.
Carol leaves for now, out running the shocked Hal, and heads to a Ferris Air hanger. Alone, she begins to question herself, but eventually decides to stick with killing Hal. That's when Hector, floating around using his telepathy, arrives to try and take control of her mind. She blocks him with her rings psychic blocker, but decides to team up with him to kill Hal.
Fatality leaves John tied up to check on the problem. The engine has been tampered with. In the darkness, something is out there. Inside, John tries to untie himself in the darkness and get to his lantern. Outside, a dirty and injured Soranik, but still retaining her ring and lantern, knocks out Fatality.
She explains she’s spent weeks searching for him, refusing to leave the planet without him, and that she thought Fatality was one of the creatures in the darkness, monsters that fear the light and crave flesh. John had begun to think the cries for flesh were him going crazy, but he was wrong. Him, Soranik, and Fatality are now trapped in a small space ship. The only light comes from the rings and the two lanterns. Outside, they all finally here the cries for flesh at once. It's loud, dozens of creatures are out there. They are not alive though. On this world, the dead walk, and they hunger.
Hal is trying to find out what happened to Carol, searching his ring for any mentions of Violet energy rings, and finding nothing. Then, Hammond reveals himself. He has taken control of a large shopping mall, and now has an army of brainwashed servants. Hal goes to stop him, and learns Carol is working with Hammond.
John and Soranik agree to a temporary truce with Fatality to fight the undead monsters outside. Now that their rings are fully charged, they can fly off this planet, they just need to all get past what's outside first. Fatality arms herself with weapons from the ship, and they open the doors, fighting zombie aliens that move in and out of the darkness. That's when, by the lantern's light, John notices something. The ship is on smooth ground, they’re at the base of an enormous obsidian construct, a temple of some kind.
John and Soranik both light up their rings to the fullest level, bathing the area in green light. While man fears the dark, these things fear the light, and retreat back into darkness. Then they see, behind them is, a massive construction, the size of a skyscraper, obsidian, an enormous black lantern. John, Soranik, and Fatality fly off the planet, as they leave an impossibly large bone white, skeletal hand, buried beneath the ash desert, reaches out to grab them. It calls out, with the voice of an ancient, long buried Titan, FLESH.
As they breach the layer of clouds and asteroids above the planet, they finally, for the first time in weeks, see the stars. John and Soranik place Fatality under arrest.
On earth, Hal beats up Hammond, believing he caused Carol to go bad. He tells Hal he had nothing to do with it. Hal defeats Hammond, but must now fight Carol. He tells her he’ll be better, they’ll work things out, she begins to snap out of her insanity. In the end, she retains the ring, but forgives Hal. Hammond returns to prison, she and Hal fly off in the aftermath of the battle. They return to her apartment. It's very awkward, lots of apologies.
On a prison planet, John arrives and speaks to Fatality, now behind bars. He's sorry. Silently, she understands, and begins to forgive. After John leaves, a violet lantern ring arrives and breaks her out of prison.
Later, Hal and Carol go flying, not with their rings, but in a plane from Ferris. Then the Violet Lanterns arrive and kidnap her to train for their corps, saying they are bringing her to Zameron. Hal tries to follow, can't get passed the atmosphere, and returns to earth defeated. He comes up with a plan though, and goes to the destroyed alien ship, fights some government soldiers, rebuilds it with his ring, and heads into space.
