Warner Bros. Wants One Of These Five DC Comics Adaptations To Shoot This Year For 2018 Release

With Aquaman dated for late 2018, WB faces the prospect of having only one DC Comics adaptation released next year. Well, that could be about to change as they fast track one of five projects...

Now The Batman is unlikely to begin shooting until next year and The Flash remains without a director, it appears as if Warner Bros. will have only one entry into the DC Films Universe coming in 2018.

That's not good news for the studio, especially as there will be thirteen months between the release of Justice League this November and Aquaman in December 2018 (which is going to get crushed if Disney and Lucasfilm decide to move Han Solo from May). It makes sense then that they're hoping to fast track another DC Comics adaptation for next year and we now know what those are.

According to Variety writer Justin Kroll, those being considered are Gotham City Sirens, The Flash, Green Lantern Corps, Suicide Squad 2, and Dark Universe (a.k.a. Justice League Dark). Which of these movies would you most like to see join Aquaman in 2018? Let us know in the usual place.

Kroll said nothing about a second 2018 release. Incorrect headline.

"WB still would like one more DC property to shoot this year other than AQUAMAN"

This is stating they want another movie to shoot this year.

If its shooting this year, it would be released at the latest, the end of 2018. I cannot think of a single example when a movie has not been released within a year of filming other than passion projects

"I cannot think of a single example when a movie has not been released within a year of filming."

This isn't that hard.

Aquaman is starting production in May 2017 and will be released in December 2018. That's around 19 months.

Wonder Woman started production in November 2015 and will be released in June 2017. That's around 18 months.

Justice League started production in May 2016 and will be released in November 2017. That's around 18 months.

Any movie that starts filming in the second half of 2017 would end up in 2019 by those same standards.

@Ignition - That's when they started production, not shooting.

@kong - Those are when they started shooting.

Pre-production --> production (aka principal photography aka shooting) --> post-production

As I'm sure there must be thousands.

Star Wars Episode I filmed between June and September 1997. It was released in May 1999, some 19 months later.

Yeah, probably need to read-up more on which point is counted as shooting. Still seems like a rush though. I'd prefer them to focus getting Aquaman done right rather than potentially start production on another movie - especially given we do not currently have an official word on what has caused the Aquaman delay.

@kong - The rapid-fire editing quick & sharp wit of the Cornetto trilogy, along with his tendency to both satirize and embrace genre tropes, are enough to have you hooked.

@kong - Also, Baby Driver is my most hyped movie of 2017.

Yes, that includes Star Wars.

@BillMurray - Edgar's style of film making would be perfect for the Flash.

We can all agree Edgar Wright is one of, if not the best candidates to write/direct The Flash film.
I've said before, WB/DC need to make Wright an offer he can't refuse. Meaning, agree to any realistic/feasible demands and do whatever it takes to make him excited/passionate about the film:

1. Full creative control. (Since that's the reason he left Ant-Man.)
2. A lucrative salary, probably. (Guarantee a generous amount of his salary & back-end the rest. This way he makes good money, but has added incentive for the film to do good-great.)
3. (If Wright approves) offer Simon Pegg a deal to co-write The Flash with Wright AND/OR the 2nd lead role as Professor Zoom.

(As much as I love the idea of Pegg as the villain & as Prof. Zoom, I'm a little skeptical because he might not want to join another film franchise. Since he's already part of Star Wars, Star Trek and Mission Impossible.)

@imkennypowers - Funnily enough, I have Pegg fancasted as Harrison Wells (who becomes Reverse-Flash in the third Flash film in my fan trilogy), and Paddy Considine (another frequent Wright collaborater) as Zoom in the first film.
