Post-credits scenes have become the norm for Marvel Studios movies and TV shows, and we're pleased to say The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is no exception.
Now, we're sure many of you might be hoping for an appearance from Adam Warlock or another big Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 tease, but this is very much a standalone story (as any great Holiday Special should be). It's a fun stinger, anyway, and we now have a full breakdown of what happens.
It starts with poor Groot forced to stand there as Rocket and Cosmo decorate him for Christmas, but when he drops his arms, the decorations fall to the floor.
Neither animal is happy and the Space Dog exclaims, "Groot ruined Christmas again." To that, Rocket replies, "Now we got to have another special" while looking at the audience.
That's where we leave things, but despite what Rocket says, the chances of another Holiday Special featuring the Guardians seem slim. Writer and director James Gunn is leaving Marvel Studios for DC Studios as its new co-CEO, while he's strongly hinted that this iteration of the team will end after the upcoming threequel.
We'd love Marvel Studios to continue doing yearly specials like this, as there are definitely other characters who could take centre stage in a festive adventure. Hawkeye was a Christmastime caper as well, of course, so there's a good chance holiday tales like these will become a yearly occurrence.
"A seasonal showpiece for the amazing Pom Klementieff as Mantis, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is James Gunn’s Marvel masterstroke, and the best Holiday Special ever made," we said in our review of the second Marvel Studios Special Presentation. "A merry Marvel Christmas miracle, it doesn’t get any better than this."
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is now streaming on Disney+.
