Forget The Patriots! GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 Was The Super Bowl's Real Winner
The New England Patriots scored an incredible victory during last night's Super Bowl, but the numbers are in, and it's actually the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 TV spot which really won the evening...
Recently, studios have become reluctant to spend money on Super Bowl TV spots, and that could explain why 2017s were so underwhelming. It's not that the footage was shown off was bad, but new looks at Baywatch and Pirates of the Caribbean obviously paled in comparison to how cool it would have been to see the spotlight turned on the likes of Justice League and Spider-Man: Homecoming.
One movie which definitely delivered, however, is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The TV spot released by Marvel was superb, while they followed that with special emojis on Twitter and the debut of a wealth of other material as well. As a result, you probably won't be surprised to learn that a survey from Fandango (via The Wrap) reveals it was the most popular preview to be shown during the game.
Logan was in second, while Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales came in third. "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 scored major points with fans during this year’s Super Bowl by delivering a fun, action-packed teaser with plenty of rock ‘n roll vibes and just enough Baby Groot to leave us all thirsting for more," said Fandango Managing Editor Erik Davis. "Proving it’s very much a movie for everyone, its Big Game spot clearly showed why it’s one of this year’s most anticipated films."
It's hard to argue with that, and it's easy to imagine Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to wind up 2017's highest grossing superhero movie given the huge amount of buzz surrounding it. What do you think?
