GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 Concept Art Reveals A Very Different Take On Mantis

We've seen concept art of a green skinned Mantis, but the latest piece offers up a different take on the character's appearance from an early point in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2's production.

Pom Klementieff was a breakout of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but we're quickly beginning to see that the version we ended up with in the Marvel sequel could have been very, very different indeed.

The piece below features art by Christian Cordella and a costume design by Marvel Studios regular Judianna Makovsky (Avengers: Infinity War). As you can see, Mantis' antennae are far more bug-like, while her eyes are much lighter and the costume she has on looks far more natural. Considering the fact she lives on Ego the Living Planet, her having that sort of suit does actually make a lot of sense.

Of course, the Mantis we got looked pretty cool and she fits in well with the rest of the Guardians. What do you guys think of this alternate take? Let us know in the comments section down below.

While this is quite cool, I'm very happy with the one we got in the finished film

@TheSoulEater - There's something wrong with the position of her head in this piture. Is she puffing her chest out?

@N0rrinRadical - I think the part of her body on the left (partially obscured by her hair) may be her shoulder, rather than her chest, and the whole jacket is twisted around her body? But it's definitely odd looking, whatever she's doing.

OK... so I watched gotg. No not vol 2, I rewatched the first one in preperation for the second... and people aren't going to like this, but I thought it kinda sucked.

I don't remember it being that bad. The characters are great, and that's VERY important, but all they do is just banter in front of a green screen the whole time, while a bare-bones plot shuffles them through set pieces. The melodrama is so damn cringey, the beginning of the movie just doesn't fit, it's uneccisary, and pretty laughable when you consider what movie it's in.. Xander looks like it's out of a TV movie. It felt like a Star Wars ripoff that was phoned in. It was fun, but very generic, and not as well done as pretty much any other space fantasy. It felt like it really wasn't trying

This isn't really that shocking, I haven't liked the vol 2 trailers from the beginning, but I didn't know I would have the same feelings if I watched the original. The dance off.... I know this is kinda a bummer, but this is a site for opinions and this is a gotg page, so sorry. It was my favorite mcu movie because it was such dumb fun, but now I'm wondering why I thought that dumb fun was so special.

Still gonna see the second, just, damn son. This is retroactively disappointing, almost wish I hadn't watched it I did not expect this. If THAT was my favorite mcu movie... damn this is bad.

@ALostCause -

To each their own. I recently rewatched GOTG for the same reasons as you and had genuinely forgotten how good it was. The original Star Wars wasn't exactly plot heavy either, but it works so damn well because you are invested in the characters. How GOTG made me care so much about this group of unknown misfits was nothing short of spectacular.

@ALostCause - I rewatched it too. And I also felt that something was off. In my opinion it missed that magic and unique feel it had then. Still liked it a lot tho

@malsemarcel - I still liked it, but I made fun of it a lot. I think the first few times I just focused on how much I liked the characters, but now that I've known them a few years, I focused on other things this time.

It's an interesting nod to her original costume, which had a spikey-edged skirt, but it's not great. Ashi pulled off the plant costume better on Samurai Jack.
