For the past few years comic book based movies have taken over the box office putting many more in development. Now with the success of AMC's comic book based smash hit zombie show The Walking Dead, is it really a shock that another zombie related book is gearing towards a big screen feature?

A movie that at first had a little trouble getting of the ground is Pride & Prejudice & Zombies. Pride & Prejudice & Zombies is Seth Grahame-Smith's retelling of Jane Austen's 1813 classic Pride & Prejudice with...well you know...Zombies.

Director Mike White(School Of Rock) is set to helm the film, replacing original director David O. Russell. Natalie Portman was originally set to produce and star in the project but there is no word on her current status with the project.

Pajiba is now reporting that Anne Hathaway may be a top choice for the role of Elizabeth Bennett. The report also states that James McAvoy, an actor that is familiar with role in comic book based movies having starring roles in Wanted and the upcoming X-Men: First Class, is the top contender for the role of Darcy.

Here is a plot summary courtesy of shvoong:

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is a prolonged edition of the adored Jane Austen novel featuring all-new scenes of bone-crunching zombie chaos. As the story unlocks, a weird disease has fallen upon the silent English village of Meryton and the dead are being raised to life. Spirited heroine Elizabeth Bennet is determined to swab out the zombie nuisance, but she's soon sidetracked by the arrival of the proud and supercilious Mr. Darcy. What results is a wonderful comedy of etiquettes with plenty of cultured sparring between the two juvenile lovers and even more violent hurly-burly on the blood-soaked battleground as Elizabeth launches fierce war against multitudes of flesh-eating zombies. Will she crush the offspring of Satan and overcome the common unfairness of the class-conscious grounded gentry? Filled entirely with romantic saga, catastrophe, swordfights, cannibalism, and thousands of putrid carcasses, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies converts a masterwork of world literature into something you would really desire to read.

Anne Hathaway as a zombie? Yes. As Barbarella, NEVER. But in general, I'm not too excited for this movie. I'm looking forward to the author's following book's movie adaptation: "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Killer"

Why are zombies always missing the flesh around the mouth. Even in the walking dead all parts look decayed but the lips are gone???????

@ scallywagthedog I'm with you "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Killer" would be an awesome movie as long as the vampires don't sparkle, but this will be a fun movie to see if done rite.

@Grimm: I dunno, Zombies just aren't my thing. I dig vamps and werewolves more for some reason.

@destined2B: I did read somewhere that the vamps of "Abe" will bring the return of the "old school" type of vampires...you know, the actually scary, dread-inspiring creatures of the night.

@WittySupername: I would pay top dollar to see Abraham Lincoln do away with the Cullen family in the most gruesome fashion possible! I'd laugh as Edward sulks about, saying, "Oh, I'm so misunderstood." Abe's response, "No, I understand you just fine, Sparkle Boy" just before he douses him in a bucket of Holy Water, axes his head off and buries a huge stake in his unbeating heart!
