The Guillermo Del Toro produced remake of 1973 TV horror movie Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark has now been picked up by a distributor. FilmDistrict have picked up the US distribution rights.

Also after months of limbo, the movie has gotten a release date. August 12th, 2011 is the new release date for the film after originally planning for a January release announced back during Comic-Con.

Sally Hurst (Bailee Madison), a lonely, withdrawn child, has just arrived in Rhode Island to live with her father Alex (Guy Pearce) and his new girlfriend Kim (Katie Holmes) at the 19th-century mansion they are restoring. While exploring the sprawling estate, the young girl discovers a hidden basement, undisturbed since the strange disappearance of the mansion's builder a century ago. When Sally unwittingly lets loose a race of ancient, dark-dwelling creatures who conspire to drag her down into the mysterious house’s bottomless depths, she must convince Alex and Kim that it’s not a fantasy—before the evil lurking in the dark consumes them all.

Del Toro rules!:) Cant wait this and At the Mountains of Madness. I heard a spooky rumor that Tom Cruise is looking for role from Mountains of Madness... Creepy!:S

Movies Del Toro should make.
First of all my favorites, Werewolf by Night and The Tomb of Dracula.

Then Doctor Strange, Deadman and I Am Legion.

And finally Swamp Thing, Hellstorm, The Darkness, The Monster of Frankenstein, Dylan Dog and Hellblazer.

Del Toro did not direct this. Troy Nixey did. Do your research.

Had no idea GDT was involved in this remake. The TV movie was freaky as hell when I was a kid. This should mean they'll release the original on DVD soon, then.
