Universal Enlists WRATH OF THE TITANS Scribe Dan Mazeau To Pen VAN HELSING Reboot

Sounds like we have some movement on the Van Helsing front as Universal has enlisted Wrath of the Titans scribe Dan Mazeau to pen the upcoming installment in Universal's Monsters Universe.

The Tracking Board is reporting that Dan Mazeau has been tasked with writing Universal's upcoming Van Helsing reboot, which will be a part of the studio's burgeoning Classic Monsters Universe. Plot details are being kept under lock-and-key.

He takes over for Academy Award-nominee Eric Heisserer (Arrival) and Jon Spaihts (Doctor Strange), who worked on the most recent draft. Additionally, in an interview with Collider, Heisserer shared a promising update about the project: "I don’t know what it’s going to look like at the end of the process, so I’m gonna withhold on commenting on really where it lands. I can say that my intent stepping in was to make it as scary as possible, partly because I know how to do that, and also because when you’re the only human surrounded by a bunch of supernatural creatures, that’s gotta be absolutely unnerving.

Alex Kurtzman & Chris Morgan will produce and are also overseeing the entire universe, which will officially kick-off this summer with the arrival of Tom Cruise's The Mummy.

According to the new report, Mazeau has been a member of Universal's monsters writers room, which also includes Noah Hawley (Legion), Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners), and Ed Solomon (Men In Black), for the last few months, but his involvement had been kept under wraps until now. Guzikowski is currently working on The Wolf Man, which has Dwayne Johnson (Black Adam) rumored to star, while David Koepp (Spider-Man) is running point on Bride of Frankenstein, which has been courting Academy Award-winner Angelina Jolie (By The Sea) to direct and possibly star.

The Van Helsing role hasn't been cast just yet, but there have been rumors swirling that Tom Cruise's character, "Nick Morton," in The Mummy may, in fact, be Van Helsing in disguise and/or be a descendant of the famous vampire hunter. Nothing has been confirmed at this point, but it's something worth monitoring as the release date inches closer.

Mazeau's biggest credit is 2012's Wrath of the Titans, but he has a number of major projects in the pipeline, including Luna Park, which has Cruise, Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow), and Simon Kinberg (Logan) attached as producers, the spy thriller Section 6, the sci-fi adaptation Yukikaze, and the action/thriller World's Most Wanted.

Idk why this movie got as much hate as it did. It wasn't that bad. Granted, I haven't seen it in like 12 years, but still.

@JohnnyTBP - it was not great but the character is a great character in novels. He would make a good character in a movie if handled properly.
