Iron Man 2 Screening

Iron Man 2 Screening

CBM's own Brent Sprecher attends an early screening of Iron Man 2 in L.A. Sorry, no spoilers!

When you set the bar as high as director Jon Favreau and title star Robert Downey, Jr. did with the original Iron Man, it seems almost impossible for a sequel to live up to the expectations of the moviegoing audience, not to mention the avid (rabid?) comic book fans. Well, I fit into the second category and, as a comic book reader, collector and creator for several years, I was entranced, enthralled—hell, I was practically ensorcelled by Iron Man 2. Favreau recently said that the best way to up the ante in the sequel was to double your pleasure; two Iron Men for the price of one. But, Iron Man 2 does so much more than that.

Uh, sorry. I've been informed by Paramount Pictures (in no uncertain terms) that there is a strict "embargo" on any information pertaining to Thursday night's screening. However, stay tuned and you will learn:

> Who betrays Tony Stark!
> What part (if any) S.H.I.E.L.D. plays in the plot!
> If Scarlett Johansson really brings it as the Black Widow!
> What other Marvel Comics references (if any) appear in the movie!
> What plot points set up Iron Man 3!
> Who/what Olivia Munn plays in the movie!

Sorry, but I can't say jack! It sucks, I know. Believe me. All I want to do is spill the beans and I can't! I didn't even call my bro to tell him about it. Tons of news after tomorrow's press junket.

Dear Brent,

Good for you...anyway, what is this "press junket" you are talking about ? Are you a reporter ?

And "news after press junket"...??? what do you mean?

What news ?

IronClad - 4/23/2010, 1:29 AM

@IndianFan: Yep, I guess you could call me a reporter. A press junket is where all of the people who made the movie get together and answer questions from us reporters. Confirmed at the junket are:
Robert Downey, Jr.
Gwyneth Paltrow
Mickey Rourke
Scarlett Johansson
Don Cheadle
Jon Favreau
Justin Therous (screenwriter)

As for "what news," it depends on what is asked and who does the answering. I'm going to do my best to get in a few questions. Any requests?

@IronClad: Don't be too envious. I had to sit near Billy Bush from ET.

And, hey, good for you looking up "ensorcelled." I like that word.
IronClad
IronClad - 4/23/2010, 2:07 AM
@Brent: hahahahahahaaaa!!! Billy Bush... douchebag extraordinaire!!! a douchenoramous if you will.

IndianFan - 4/23/2010, 2:13 AM
Yes. Requests as follows:

1. Question for Jon Favreau - what of the next instalment IRON MAN - 3 ? Further, does he see any role for Happy Hogan hereafter ?

2. Question for Robert Downey Jr. - When does he start filming for the Sherlock Holmes sequel ?

3. Question for Jon Favreau - As regards the bigger Marvel Universe - Will there be Howard Stark (Tony's dad) in Captain America film ?

4. Question for Jon Favreau - He has been credited as one of the Executive Producers of the forthcoming Avengers Movie ? Has he met up with Joss Wheadon in this regard ?

@Growler: excellent question about the credits. I wanna KNOW!
IronClad
IronClad - 4/23/2010, 2:22 AM
what happened to Growler? should we stay after the credits??? I gotta KNOW!!!
bsprecher
bsprecher - 4/23/2010, 2:41 AM
@IndianFan: Good questions. I only know the answer to one of those, so I'll see what I can do. I'm not going to ask about Sherlock Holmes though because I'll likely only have one shot to ask questions and I want to stick to Marvel-related topics.

@IronClad: Growler?

Regarding the credits...I don't think the credits that I saw will be the same as the credits that will be shown at the theatrical release. When I go to see it again--and I definitely will--I will be staying.

@teabag: That's a damn good name for a drink! Yeah, I got real lucky.

True story: I left the Whilshire Hotel for the screening 1-1/2 hours prior to the screening, knowing that the drive should be about 30 minutes. I had the general directions, but wanted confirmation so I asked a valet. His directions were different than the ones I had, but he said it would be quicker. I took his advice and almost immediately realized that I was going in the complete opposite direction. I got turned around and started freaking out as time ticked by stuck in post-rush hour downtown L.A. traffic. I thought, "Well, this is it. One wrong turn now and you're going to miss the f*cking screening." I looked up the street and saw a huge Iron Man 2 billboard. Bingo! A sign from the movie gods! Made it with 20 minutes to spare!

@darthstern: You couldn't tell from my opening paragraph?
IronClad
IronClad - 4/23/2010, 2:51 AM
@Brent: there was a poster on here named "Growler" that asked you about the credits. then, when i gave said poster kudos for their question... their post disappeared! did i have a Beautiful Mind moment? SWEEEET!!!
Bijous
Bijous - 4/23/2010, 2:55 AM
@Brent: Ask Favreau if Iron Man 3 will be out before The Avengers. I heard they were going to start filming it this fall so that means it could come out by Christmas next year.

I wouldn't be surprised if MUNN is playing a small cameo of SCARLET WITCH, wouldn't be surprised at all, from day one WITH has had a strong connection with TONY! Though it probably is the SHIELD agent or a reporter lol!
