Matt Fraction Writing Iron Man 2 Video Game

The Eisner-winning writer of The Invincible Iron Man will pen the script for Sega's Iron Man 2 video game.

Writer Matt Fraction quit his successful job to become a comic book writer at the worst possible time--his wife just got pregnant--but fortune favors the bold and his talent has led him to win the 2009 Eisner Award for Best New Series for The Invincible Iron Man (with artist Salvador Larocca).

Now, Fraction is ready to make a move to another medium. Sega has picked Fraction as the man to pen the script for the Iron Man 2 video game. How does writing for a video game differ from writing for a comic book? When asked that question, Fraction said:

"There's a difference with written versus spoken dialogue. In a game, a lot of it is spoken. So I end up talking to myself a lot to hear how my lines sound. I have to find an artful way to explain everything the gamer needs to know without making it so disengaging that they just skip through the dialogue, which is what a lot of gamers do."

Its always good when you can get the cast to do something like this!

Bought the first IRON MAN game on PS3, wasn't too bad! Hopefully IM 2 will be as good as the new WOLVIE movie game! (I said game lol).

I've met the guy. Funny and a great writer and as much as I like him and think his stories are great, they won't mean crap if the game mechanics are still shit. Hope it works out.

this story doesn't ease my fears

it's the gameplay that is usually the weak aspect of comicbook movie games.

The first game was garbage, but once you unlocked the Hulkbuster and had the armor upgraded all the way so you didn't die every 10 seconds from the orgy of missiles aimed at your face, it became somewhat enjoyable.

The new Batman game will have hopefully raised the bar with the quality of video games for Marvel and DC. Wolverine had some great things about it, but was a bit repetitive. Spiderman 2 and Spiderman Web of Shadows were awesome, so too was Hulk Ultimate Destruction. Iron Man deserves a great game to go along with the movie, and beyond the movie.

@Shaman they didn't want to make any more movie adaptations that sucked, they still plan on making games. sounds like hiring proper writers is the first step.

Yes!! Fraction is one of my all time fave comic book writers (him and ed brubaker), so this gives me some hope for the story of the game, at least. been a fan of his since i first picked up the first issue of punisher war journal vol 2

woo hoo!

Ozymandias I feel the same Batman kicked so much ass but if it were M it would have been so much cooler!! It already had a good amount of blood in it from the Titans.

I haven't been playing video games much for several years, but when I did decide to get back into it - Iron Man was the first game I got. Played through about halfway, and was totally disgusted. It had a few cool elements, but overall just felt like it was a total blatant attempt to take some generic piece of garbage, slap a name on it, and make money. I had high expectations after the movie. But never played through far enough to get the hulkbuster armor, so maybe I'll finish it up.

In fact after playing that game, and transformers - was also horrible to me, I skipped over Wolverine, because I didn't want to waste the time or money.

Iron Man 2 as a game has profound potential if done well. I love a great story and cutscenes, but the majority of your emphasis is on GAMEPLAY lol, so I hope they get that right this time 'round.

i can't stand matt fraction. he's good on iron man, but other than that, his stories are just not good...at all, at least to me. his run on punisher war zone was god awful.
