Robert Downey Jr. Says Iron Man 2 is "Incredible"

The formerly troubled actor is living the life of a true Hollywood leading man.

Robert Downey Jr.'s (RDJ) career is at an all-time high and the actor who used to look for happiness in drugs and alcohol is now happy and sober. In a recent interview, RDJ told an Australian reporter:

"Look at me. I could have a double franchise three days after Christmas."

If it sounds like he's bragging, perhaps he has a right to. Only eight years ago, RDJ was found wandering the streets of Culver City barefoot and under the influence of cocaine, a clear violation of his parole. RDJ knows that he's fortunate and that good things don't often last.

"(Success) can be such a fleeting thing. Some people have said: 'Don't you give pep talks to younger actors about not screwing up?' Please. I'm not that poster boy."

What's the secret of RDJ's success? He'll tell you:

"It's pretty simple. As long as what you're working on is feeding you more than it's draining you, everything is cool. My motto, creatively speaking, is if you see fear, then head straight for it."

Finally, when asked about his current project, Iron Man 2, RDJ said that the film will be "incredible in every detail."

Fantastic! He is the Comeback Kid now! I for one am so glad he got sober and is now doing wonderful things with his career! Anybody can get a second chance if they just change what's hurting them and do what's beneficial to them! Sometimes hitting bottom is the first day of going to the heights! Literally there is no place to go but up!

Too true DDD. RDJ cleaned himself up. This renewal, personally and career wise, is his karmic reward, I think.

@11viking11

Actually, I believe Reynolds could have made a great Tony Stark, but he's busy playing EVERY OTHER superhero so he let RDJ have it.

Selecting RDJ for Stark was like picking Courtney Love to play a strung out heroine slut in Larry Flint.

A no brainer.

Let's hope that any alcohol issues for Tony Stark in the film don't bounce back and hit RDJ.

Ever since the days of Chaplin and Natural Born Killers I have been admiring RDJ's work. I have no doubt that IMII is great, I am sure it's due in large part to his great talent.

Drugs are not unlike the nature of war. Any idiot knows that war is hell. It's tragedy and misery, and it's one of the most unfortunate aspects of life. Humankind could do without it.
Drug abuse, addiction etc is also hell. It is all tragedy and misery and personal destruction and a very unfortunate fact of life. Humankind could do with out it.
But you have leagues of people who protest wars and object to wars and so on and so forth. But these days almost no one seems to have that attitude about drugs at all. Except of course for the shrinks and doctors that treat addicts. And me.

If Robert Downey Jr says its gonna be incredible, I trust him. And well done to him for getting back on top again, everybody deserves a second chance especially Robert, who does seem like one of the coolest and most down to earth people you could meet. I hope he continues to have the same success with Iron Man 2 & 3, The Avengers and hopefully a couple of Avengers sequels and Sherlock Holmes sequels if Sherlock Holmes is good

Downey is so gifted as an actor, and was way before Iron Man. Iron Man is just a desert on a menu, when you look up versatility in the dictionary you'll see Downey's picture.

@GothamKnights2012, Damn good eye man. RDJ is a clever guy and I agree that it is more than coincidence that he chose that word... or we could just be hopeful fanboys.

I suppose I should put my Kudos to RDJ on the table. I live in one of the methamphetamine capitals of the U.S. so I have seen countless people, many times good people, succumb to such a disgusting substance. I've watched it firsthand as my wife's brother went from being a normal, artistic and intelligent, and well adjusted young man to a meth-addict, a 'tweeker' as we call them here, who would steal from his parents for things to pawn for more drug money. Hell, I even remember when he was driving around rural areas in the middle of the night pulling the metal roof's from barns to sell them in salvage. The fact that RDJ overcame a narcotics addiction is nothing short of phenomenal. However, and I'm sure RDJ would agree, that event in his life helped define him. Without it, he wouldn't be the person we see in films today, and he is all the more stronger for having survived it. Kudos to you RDJ! You came! You saw! You conquered!

This is also coming from a guy who once said "[frick] DC"! Now that he knows he doesn't have to compete with the Dark Knight!..

I read where RDJ said that kicking his habit wasn't as hard as admitting he had a problem.
