Will Iron Man 2 Villains Team-up?

IGN had a chance to talk to Sam Rockwell while he was down in Austin promoting Jared Hess' Gentleman Broncos at Fantastic Fest, and they asked a few questions regarding his role as Justin Hammer in IM2.

IGN didn't really get anything exciting out of him but they did get this juicy tidbit while talking about his character Justin Hammer saying that Hammer would be working with Mickey Rourke's Whiplash to get revenge on Tony Stark. Rockwell told IGN the following:

"He's a rival of Tony's - they are competitors in the weapons industry. I team up with Michey Rourke and we decide we want to take him down and take down the Stark legacy. He's sort of like a cousin of the Charlie's Angels character I played. The smarmy cousin. But it's Mickey - he does the fighting and the kicking ass in the film."

When asked about playing the lead in a superhero movie, he told them he'd be willing to do one if he could do it with his Moon director Duncan Jones. (I don't even know who hero he looks like).

JFYI Justin Hammer is a fictional character that has appeared in various comic book series published by Marvel Comics. As a frequent adversary of the superhero Iron Man, Justin Hammer exists in Marvel's main shared universe, known as the Marvel Universe. He first appeared in Iron Man (1st series) #120 (1978). Justin Hammer is a normal, middle aged man. He has a degree in commerce and business, and is an extremely efficient administrator with a genius-level intellect. He has access to various forms of advanced technology designed by his technicians.

Is Sam Rockwell telling the truth? Could this mean a 2-on-2 battle between Iron Man, War Machine, Justin Hammer and Whiplash? Will he get his own armor? Only time will tell.

ROCK ON!!! (and sorry for my absence but like what all parents say STUDIES FIRST)

WARNING: spoilers
from the footage that i have seen hammer appears to be a needy fanboy who craves stark's attention.
when tony blows him off he gets angry and i am guessing that he supplies whiplash with an upgrade after watching him dish it out at the grand prix.
he is also the guy who manufactures the war machine armor at rhodey's request for those who have seen the leaked five minutes.
i cant see him in armor but i can see him putting a code or a virus in the war machine armor.
hammer isn't the type to get his hands dirty. he doesnt mind it but prefers to manipulate others which is why i am assuming he sees whiplash as such an enticing employee.
this is guess work but it seems logical to me.

cheadle as rhodey. he's not right for the part. Him and downey jr. don't have good chemistry, which is why they're having Rhodey going against tony in this sequel.

Indeed. I'll have to wait and see, but idk, Cheadle and RDJ, don't seem to have that chemistry to me. I think that's why there gonna put him by himself for most of the movie

It almost seems or appears like that they maybe making Justin Hammer (Rockwell) like their version of Lex Luther for Tony Stark.

Which is cool in my opinion. They won't necessarily give him some suited up fight scene as one might think but maybe give Tony someone to face off against on screen in some pretty intense heated actor vs actor exchanges and at the same time he will have some link to Whiplash (Rourke)

But this is just my thoughts on the matter. My opinion popping up randomly.

@ supermario

and what movie have you seen with RDJ and Cheadle to decide they don't have chemistry?

btw i think cheadle is a fine choice. terrence howard was too much of a nancy pants

I'm simply comparing to howard and RDJ. And from the footage at comic-con, (though, i'll admit, not much) I just don't like the feel of cheadle's and RDJ's performance together. But as Viper said, I'll have to wait and see

i thought it was common knowledge that these two team up.
