Iron Man 3 massively exceeded expectations at the box office back in 2013, earning over $1.2 billion and scoring the acclaim of critics with a solid 80% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Shane Black took charge of the threequel after Jon Favreau decided to move on from the franchise and while it's fair to say that fans enjoyed this action-packed adventure for the Armored Avenger, there were some liberties taken with the source material which definitely upset a lot of people.

One of the biggest was obviously The Mandarin and while we all thought that Ben Kingsley was playing the villain, the final act revealed that he was an imposter and Guy Pearce's Aldrich Killian instead declared himself "The Mandarin" as he went to war with Tony Stark's entire Iron Legion.

In this amazing batch of keyframe concept art (most of which has never been seen online), that epic battle is covered along with a number of key moments from the movie, including the attack on Tony's mansion and his time on the run.

This movie should have been epic with a mindblowing third act. Instead what we got was disappointing. This sweet concept art just further highlights that fact. The most forgettable and disappointing MCU film.

Agreed. Wish Favreau could’ve capped off the trilogy despite Iron Man 2.

Easily the most disappointing movie in the MCU for me. Not the worst, but immensely disappointing.

@regularmovieguy - for me its both the most disappointing and the worst film in the MCU. I just hate the choices they made in that movie, there really isn't anything stand out. Its the only MCU film I've watched the least (once in theaters opening weeked, once bootleg the week after it was released to make sure it really was as disappointing as I thought). Its the least important film in the MCU as well.

@HeavyMetal4Life

I’m just glad we have RDJ killing it in CW, IW, and to a lesser extent Spider-Man Homecoming.

It would just be such a waste ignorance he ended on that note (and he was great in the movie, the movie just wasn’t up to snuff).

@regularmovieguy - oh for sure, the Russos really saved the day and have handled Iron Man extremely well. You know, every phase 2 movie had a big impact on the future of the MCU, that is except Iron Man 3. Its significance is summed up in a single line in Civil War (not even in AoU, lol) when Tony tells Cap that he and Pepper aren't together because he destroyed all his suits only to keep building.

And yeah, I agree- RDJ once again killed it in IM3. I remember talking with a friend immediately after we walked out of the theater to say what we did or didn't lake. I said "well RDJ was great again" and my friend replied "yes but that's to be expected now after 3 movies with him as Iron Man."

I guess I should rephrase "big impact" to "moderate to big impact."

@HeavyMetal4Life - If anyone is to blame for the lack of quality in Iron Man 2 & 3, its RDJ. He pushed for Justin Theroux to pen the screenplay for Iron Man 2 and Shane Black to write and direct Iron Man 3. If they had just kept the same writing team from the first film, Iron Man 2 would have been way more well-received and Favreau probably would have capped off the trilogy.

OT: Some really neat fan art of what Charlie Cox's Daredevil would look like if the Russos had included him in Endgame.

This is one of the few times that the movie far exceeds to concept art.
Those last few images really show what a loss it was to have too many IM on the screen at one time. Fans really wanted to see each armor in detail and what we got was many of them buzzing by or in the distance. For that aspect, what a loss to fans. But overall, the movie was quite enjoyable, had a good twist to it. Had some awesome action like the plane skydive rescue, introduced Extremis in far more satisfying way than AoS, let Pepper get in on the action...
Can't wait to see the future of Extremis, what did or did not get resolved in Miss Potts, what new armor is in store for us... and of course the Real Mandarin as referenced in the One Shot for Trevor.
What a satisfying franchise.

A truly horrible movie that would not be missed if you skipped over it in a MCU marathon.

@bropous - I will watch it for a third time when I MCU binge for Endgame. After that, it will probably be years once again before I rewatch it.
