IRON MAN 3: Check Out Some Awesome Unused Poster Designs For The Marvel Studios Threequel

Iron Man 3 massively exceeded expectations at the box office back in 2013, earning over $1.2 billion and scoring the acclaim of critics with a solid 80% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Despite that, it remains one of Marvel Studios' most controversial movies and that's down to the fact director Shane Black took some bold risks with the threequel, including making The Mandarin an alcoholic British actor called Trevor! Regardless of how you felt about that, there was a lot of good in Iron Man 3 and now some unused posters have been revealed.

These put the Armoured Avenger is some unique scenarios and while the posters never made it past the concept stage, it would have been very cool to see live-action versions of any of them.

@HeavyMetal4Life - I wish Ben Kingsley was actually the Mandarin.

@ShaggyCipher - Well there were early drafts of the script that featured Maya Hansen as the villain in the film. That was ultimately vetoed by Ike Perlmutter, Marvel’s CEO at the time, who firmly believed "that toy won’t sell as well if it’s a female." Here’s an article about it, https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2016/05/iron-man-3-villain-rebecca-hall

@ShaggyCipher - being the most hardocre IM on this site is wasn't ok it was a mess and miss of the best opportunity for marvel :( i'm unrealistically hard on that film , but it's only because i know how great it could've been . i love IM comics and to watch them mesh 3 story arcs into one is went i went into autopilot on that film

@knocturnalzen10 - I was so excited for that movie. I thought it was going to outdo The Avengers. It ended up being worse than anything the MCU had put out. Such a missed opportunity, they essentially lied to the fans.

@Vocloz - I'd argue the MCU hasn't produced a bad movie. Even Ironman 2, 3 and Thor: The Dark World were ok. They just weren't as amazing as other MCU movies which were iconic or damn near perfect. Age of Ultron too isn't bad, its just not as great. There are some hits as well as misses in them. But none of them are unwatchable. Iron Man 3 had its moments. It an ok movie. Just not the Iron Man 3 I wanted. I was looking for a 10 rings powered up Ben Kingsley taking on a swarm of Iron Man suits in a Nolan rip off Dark Knight style Iron Man 3.

But instead we got Trevor. Ooooooh my god, do you guys remember what it was like around here after Trevor? Trevor was the first Martha in CBMs. It was so bad around here.

@ShaggyCipher - yeah but that was filmed after the films release and in reaction to the overwhelming negative response the Trevor twist brought, and it was only included in the DVD release so it's not really part of the movie. But the fact that they backtracked and said there is a real Mandarin out there minimizes the villains in the movie. So we just got 2 randoms pestering Tony as the 3rd movie? It's not even the MCUs version of the Mandarin anymore? Idk. I can take it easy in it because at this stage it's an inconsequential pimple on the MCUs booty.

Imagine a Batman movie where the Joker turns out to be a British actor named Trevor pretending to be Joker. That's how Iron Man 3 felt to me. I don't know how Fiege allowed this to be made. Not adapting the real Mandarin and the ten rings is the biggest missed opportunity the MCU has ever made.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - I loved it in Neil Gaiman's Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader, when (among the other variations on the Batman tale) we learn there IS a version where the Joker is a British actor pretending to be a supervillain, that being Alfred who created the Joker (and hired his acting troupe to play other Rogues) to make sure Bruce had someone to challenge him and keep him psychologically healthy. I think some people just like those kind of variations and some people don't...

@DalekCraigWasson - Well, that's an elseworlds type of scenario where every character's role is different. I like those stories too.

Seeing all these images of destruction, I wish the film delivered on that idea of Tony's way of life being destroyed. He's forced into a difficult position, loses his home and his original armor, but none of this feels like a loss that truly hurts him. They didn't necessarily need to kill off someone, but perhaps if Stark Industries, the company his father built, was somehow dismantled, it would leave him in an interesting place of attempting to re-build from the ground up.
