IRON MAN 3 Concept Art Shows War Machine/Iron Patriot Trying On Some Cool Comic Accurate Armors

Iron Man 3 massively exceeded expectations at the box office back in 2013, earning over $1.2 billion and scoring the acclaim of critics with a solid 80% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Shane Black took charge of the threequel after Jon Favreau decided to move on from the franchise and while it's fair to say that fans enjoyed this action-packed adventure for the Armored Avenger, there were some liberties taken with the source material which definitely upset a lot of people.

While The Mandarin immediately leaps to mind, Iron Patriot was given a totally new identity as well because Norman Osborn was nowhere to be seen and it was James "Rhodey" Rhodes/War Machine who took on the identity.

War Machine also got a much-needed upgrade and this batch of concept art from the Marvel Studios threequel shows various alternate designs for both suits, some of which are definitely more inspired by the comic books that what ended up on the big screen; Iron Patriot looks positively villainous in some of these pieces and War Machine looks like he's stepped straight out of the source material.

Who else here enjoyed Ben Kingsley's Trevor Slattery?

Watched this again 2 days ago and can comfortably say this is the best Iron Man movie. Fumbles the bag a bit at the end, but I actually kinda miss the bombast this movie gave itself in other places in the MCU. Black went BONKERS with this, which makes it feel almost like a step brother for Thor Ragnarok in its own way

Reall was not a fan of how underutilized the Iron Patriot armor was (we really don't even see it in action). It was a nice design though, and hopefully it finds its way into the hands of a particular villain one day in the MCU...

I did not like this movie at all. Rhodey is a joke and doesn't even get one of the gazillion suits at the end of the movie to help out. Nothing that happens in this movie affects anything afterwards, and creates a complete WTF when you next see IM in the opening scene of AoU. Pepper Potts getting all the action at the end and turning into a super human is not something I needed to see. Don't get started on the Mandarin (although Ben Kingsley is excellent in anything).

Really, a lot of phase 2 movies were underwhelming. IM3, Thor Dork World, Age of Ultron were all pretty underwhelming. GofG was good, but very separate thing at the time. Without the excellent Winter Soldier, phase 2 would've been an unworthy follow-up to Avengers 1.
