According to Deadline, after prepping the shoot for a week in Mainland China, Marvel will begin filming scenes for Iron Man 3 in Beijing on Monday, and veteran Chinese actor Wang Xuequi has officially been cast as Dr Wu - a slight variation on 'Chen Lu' who he was previously rumored to be playing. Apparently the character was originally going to be played by Andy Lau until he had to back out, and was thought to be an ally to Tony Stark. But when it leaked that the character's name was Chen Lu - who in the comics becomes Radioactive Man - it was assumed he must be a villain, and Deadline have also confirmed this, saying Xuequi will have a villainous role, but that it is "not a huge part". We don't know if Lu will actually transform into Radioactive man in the movie of course.

Xuequi - dubbed the "Chinese Sean Connery" - has had a career spanning 25 years, appearing in the likes of Yellow Earth (1984) and The Big Parade (1986), Huang Jianxin’s Samsara, and Zhang Yimou’s Codename Cougar (1989), and more recently the award-winning Forever Enthralled (2008) and Bodyguards and Assassins (2009).

@marvel72, maybe they could show them setting up the masters of evil in some of the after credits. thatd be a good way to show them uniting and plotting something

Well, his origin does involve Thor. So i'm guessing he can be in Thor: The Dark World and Iron Man 3, or just throw in a tie-in comic book like how they always do to explain things in the Cinematic Universe.

Or just have an after-credits scene with his being infected with the Radiation, even though he is China's super soldier.

I doubt that he'll have any other role outside of this movie alone, to be honest - seems like that type of actor who makes one deal and then done with it. I don't see him becoming the Radioactive Man, either, but maybe there will be a nod to it...well, that's me! Nonetheless, he seems to be a rather intriguing addition to the cast.

Maybe his the main villian in Ant-Man, with a small role in Iron Man 3.

The thought about it is which origin they'll do for this character. The Earth-616 origin is the one i'm looking forward to because it can tie a knot between Thor: The Dark World and Iron Man 3 other than the events during The Avengers.

But I think that the audience won't want another story of when a skinny scientist diagnoses himself with a chemical he becomes a green angry monster (Doctor Connors/Lizard and Bruce Banner/The Incredible Hulk)

Oh and let's not forget Green Lantern, even though he isn't a monster...

@NG

It would be cool if the villains had prep-time dueling Iron Man in separate films so it could build up to something like the Sinister Six or The Flash's Rogues.

Ummm, did anyone read the source? Here is what it says:

Marvel starts filming several Iron Man 3 scenes in Beijing on Monday. And I’ve learned from my Chinese-based movie biz sources that the studio has just cast leading Chinese actor Wang Xuequi as a new character playing “Dr. Wu”. The highly secretive Marvel has been prepping for the shoot for a week in Mainland China. DMG Entertainment is Iron Man 3’s Chinese distributor, and is working to help staff the shoot on the ground. Marvel still intends to file for co-production status – but apparently they have a permit to film and are ready to go on that front.

It was rumored a few months ago that Hong Kong actor Andy Lau would be joining Iron Man 3 as an ally of billionaire inventor Tony Stark, but he quickly backed out. Then several online comic book sites claimed 64-year-old Xueqi would be a last minute addition taking on the role that Lau had been circling: Chen Lu who is the civilian alias of Radioactive Man. But I’m told Xueqi’s “is not a huge part”.

Is not a huge part? What phrase are you quoting Ror? Not trying to be rude, it's just I didn't read that phrase in Deadline's article.

They've since changed the article! In the original it said it was a large, villainous role. I'll alter it myself in one sec..

Well, the skinniest and most frail characters/antagonists can be very dangerous without super-powers or abilities, take it from Arnim Zola.

I just hope he doesn't end up like David Banner as the so-called "Absorbing Man" in Ang Lee's Hulk.

what if he will be the next mandarin? with some sort of reincarnation like the comics...with Kingsley to carry the character to the big audience and Xuequi to take the mantle of the new mandarin at the end of the movie (or maybe in the post-credits cene) ;)
