Taylor Kitsch Defends JOHN CARTER; Says He's "Incredibly Proud" Of The Film

Despite the fact that the movie is expected to result in a massive loss for Disney, John Carter himself (Taylor Kitsch) doesn't view it as a failure and is proud of his contribution to the adaptation.

"I don't see it as a failure, that's the thing," revealed the Canadian actor in a recent interview. "I'm incredibly proud of it and I would do it all over again. If someone told me that my first lead film will make well over 300 million dollars, that's a good thing."

That's one way of looking at it (in fairness, it's only the ridiculously high budget which has resulted in the movie being viewed as a "flop") but Kitsch isn't letting any of the negative reports faze him. "I know personally I literally did everything possible I could have in John Carter, and in Battleship and in Savages. That's why I prep so hard, and why I push myself so hard, so I can have no regrets. If it makes 10 bucks at the box office, I still did everything I possibly could. Literally no one will outwork me and that's the way I approach it."

As for the fans who have taken to Twitter and Facebook in order to get Disney to give a sequel the green light, he added, "If you are going to pay attention to the materialistic part of it, you also need to pay attention to the fans. For them to have these Facebook pages and rally to get another one going, it's quite flattering."

I'm proud of Zack Snyder making Sucker Punch and i would promote it on any medium but i'm still not gonna get a sequel. Which i'm totally fine with TBH.

its a big problem that movie success is based on how much money they make.
I see a lot of comments relating to this in regard to other movies, and it saddens me that fans of movies and comicbook movies even consider this as a merit.

I liked this movie also.

It was a good movie. It's a real shame that movies like Transformers 2 and The Last Airbender made alot of money, but John Carter failed..

Good to see an actor standing by his work. While it's one thing for an actor to say "yeah, I messed up, we should do better" it kinda seems like too many actors in bad films seem to just agree with the public to avoid getting hated on themselves, I kinda feel like that's what Mickey Rourke was doing with Iron Man 2 (personally I don't understand why that film has such a bad rep, it's no Iron Man 1, sure, but it's also no Spider-man 3, Last Stand or Batman and Robin).

Ironman53- I agree. Nowadays we are VERY desensitised on account of all the set visits/spoilers/news/interviews/etc. For a film with such a big budget to succeed, it kinda HAS TO have an already pre-established fanbase to carry it, like Twilight, Hunger Games or Avengers.

I loved the movie. I don't think it received what it deserved. Something was off. I thought it was a great film. Much better than most of the crap Hollywood likes to spit out at us. So I totally agree with Taylor on this; great movie. Quality script and directing. Nice development and not over-the-top cliche elements.

Yep, he is right to be proud. It wasn't an excellent movie, nor an excellent performance but it deserved to do much better and he did a pretty good job in most of his scenes.

fine example of wrong marketing strategy (on Disney's part) or maybe he just hasn't got that box office draw appeal yet?!...i haven't seen this film yet or probably i'll just wait till it's available on rental or i don't know. besides who would say something bad about a film he does just fairly recently, that would be dumb. lol

Sounds like a nice guy. Yeah, not a perfect movie, nor adaptation, and he's not like one of the greatest actors ever, but it's not wrong at all to be proud of it - I'm quite proud as a fan myself. :)

Ironman53 - "Maybe Battleship works out for Taylor, but I dunno dudes....I'm not stoked for it.." --- that even got me thinking what if that same thing happened to Battleship?...uhm but to be fair it has Liam Neeson as co star there, Rihanna? (wait i'm having 2nd thoughts on that with her in this film)and Skarrsgard - i thought he's the main man at first but not again it's Kitsch. back to square one. lol

The expense of John Carter was what killed it for Disney. The film itself was great.

But, hey, it's like anything else...you take a risk on these things sometimes. There's risk in pretty much everything. Sometimes situations don't work out the best. It shouldn't reflect on the quality of the product.

I can't believe that some people still reading this have not seen it. Surely the talkback on boards has prevented some people (who would love this film) from going to it. It's the dark side of the internet. False negative buzz.

People bitch about "we know Mars is lifeless nowadays" but it could be explained as happening in a parallel universe Mars...
