From Academy Award®--winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton comes "John Carter"—a sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). "John Carter" is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands. The screenplay was written by Andrew Stanton, Mark Andrews and Michael Chabon.

The only critics of films I respect are fellow fanboy members RIGHT here! Those tools in the "media" said 'Star Wars ' was mediocre when it first cam out. Yet they praise movies I nor half the population ever heard of- and don't care about.

I trust the opinions of like-minded people who have a passion for- and a knowledge of- material that interests us.
Overall , if you average out the comments and reviews from member's here, you get a very accurate account as to whether a movie, TV show, comic etc. is worth-while. JMHO.

first of all, i really want to see this movie.

HOWEVER, it is usually NOT A GOOD SIGN when A) all the quotes are one word, which means they can be taken completely out of context (for example, the critic may write, "despite it's weak characterizations, the movie does have spectacular scenery" and the review simply reads, "SPECTACULAR"), B) you cannot read the quote attribution because it is too small or they it doesn't appear long enough, which means they are trying to gloss over something, AND, C) the critics themselves are from small, not well known media outlets or local radio stations, often owned by the studio or distribution company for the movie.

There should be regulations against this in my opinion.

Man, I hope this does well. It seems like one of those flicks that actually aim to be a good movie and please the viewers, not just the stockholders.

@pro346 - i hope so, i really do. i have tix for an advanced screening on monday, can't wait. disney live action (sci-fi/fantasy/super hero) is often a mixed bag; rocketeer, tron legacy, black hole, to name a few.

All the reviews I've seen from outside the States give it a mediocre score.Only the U.S. reviews are rating it highly.I'll keep my mind open though.I've loved and liked many movies that have bombed critically and commercially.I'll keep my own council :)

Color me skeptical. They seem to be trying REALLY hard to sell this movie to us. Also, the "STAR WARS for a new generation" quip is always a turn off. Probably a couple of dozen movies over the years have billed themselves as the successor to STAR WARS.... Masters of the Universe, Green Lantern, anyone?
