Not surprisingly, Malkovich will be playing antagonist Quentin Turnbull, who's also known as the man with the eagle-topped cane. Turnbull's son was one of Jonah Hex's military mates in the Civil War, but was killed by when Union soldiers who pinned the murdered men on Jonah, saying he was traitor. Revenge over his son's death is what sets Malkovitch's character after Hex.

The movie is still in pre-production but will be directed by Horton Hears A Who! helmer, Jimmy Hayward.

I've got mixed emotions on this one - Both Josh Brolin and John Malkovich are BRILLIANT actors (though Mr. Malkovich has been a little 'hit-or-miss' when it comes to choosing 'commercial' films (think 'Eragon'). My biggest concern is the rumor that Lexi Alexander might be at the helm of this film. After 'Princess Kitana's' last show at bat ('Punihser: War Zone'), you'd think that anyone producing a comic book movie would avoid her like the Black Plague!

Malkovitch! yes. Love that weird guy. He's like an amalgam of wilem defoe and kevin spacey.

It is probably making so much headway because the western style is something hollywood understands. They love making westerns and we love watching them. Jonah Hex isn't a bland Western hero in the vein of a John Wayne, it's dark and... funny. Hex's got dimension, showing a strong leaning towards being sympathetic, noble, and vengeful. Classic. Cant wait.

Never read any Hex but i love Brolin and Malcovitch..even though the guy would appear in frakkin Showgirls 2 for a paycheck! And i love that the smaller titles are getting some attention, paves the way for movies like Sandman and Preacher

I would easily love to see a Jonah Hex movie much more than a Dark Knight sequel.

And if they did a Preacher movie... Well...

loganoneil, do I have to think about Eragon? I just managed to erase the last traces of that from my mind! Thanks a lot! It's all coming back! I best get my amnesia ray (the revolver).

Howlett - sorry man, but I had to. How do you think I feel? I had hopes for the film, only to watch them get smashed is like taking one to the 'short and curlies'. Malkovich is a BRILLIANT actor, but (lest we forget) he's shot a few turkeys in his day....

Malkovich is a BRILLIANT actor, I agree. Can't blame him for how some of his movies have turned out, he reads the script and thinks "this could be a good movie", the film actually being good is out of his hands. All he can do is his best with the character so we can only really slam him for bad roles (which are very few) not bad movies (which are a few more!).

As far as Eragon goes, it doesn't help that almost every Dragon film I've seen has been lame. Hollywood just hasn't really got the hang of making dragons or snakes look good on screen. I'm wondering off the point here, well I would be if I started with a point!

No you're right - Malokovich has alway been and alway will be a top-notch actor, it's just a shame to see a man of his caliber sign onto a film, only to have it tank (or as in the case of 'Eragon', tank BADLY!) As for the dragons /snakes bit - it is a legitimate concern. Special effects have come a LONG way, but OBVIOUSLY they still needs a little work. It also has something to do with the time/money one has to spend of a project. Case in point - the dinosaurs in 'Jurassic Park' were brilliant and totally believable. Flash forward a couple of years to 'Jurassic Park: Lost World' - uhhhh, not-so-believable in certain scenes. It felt as if those effects were somehow rushed - the time and effort that went into the first film were somehow misplaced in the second.
