More DREDD Leaked Footage Surfaces Online

The source of the leaked footage is a special effects artist who has posted his FX Showreel online for all to view. One problem, he included footage of a film that hasn't been released, his loss, our gain.

Well, I'm sure some point soon this will be taken off the web, so enjoy it while it lasts. Now, let's focus on the CGI that he has on display. I actually liked the subtle use of it to enhance each shot, something Lucas sure needs a lesson in.

Thanks for the heads up dreddhead123

DREDD takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot – if necessary. The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and the frenetic vision of director Peter Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film that returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra’s revered comic strip.

Dredd stars Karl Urban, Olivia Thirlby (Juno) and Lena Headey (Game of Thrones). The film opens in 3D September 21st.

@nailbiter Lol I guess, I'm just getting tired of them not releasing a trailer for this movie, I haven't seen a teaser poster yet. But my guess is they might not be releasing anything until Comic Con.

The helmets look even worse in motion. Why are they so bulky?

This is the first film in modern times to be released as a gif trailer. Each scene is put online and then you have to join the gifs together. And add your own score and sound effects too.

"The helmets look even worse in motion. Why are they so bulky?"

Cos they got big heads that's why!!!!

But seriously, check this out:

A real helmet in REAL LIFE is kinda big, don't you think? The 1995 film has helmets that went in at the sides, the new film doesn't have that feature. The sides come out a bit and go down a bit more.

I think people are getting a bit too worried about the helmets. Based on the short clips I think they look fine. The true test will be the trailer when we see Karl Urban close up. But I think he'll be fine.

Big!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/herefordandworcester/content/images/2007/09/12/wyche_06_403x304.jpg

Big!

I think people have forgotten that real helmets are big to accommodate the size of the human brain - which is big in relation to the size of the head (well unless you got a tiny brain :P). When you compare real helmets to the ones in the new film I don't see them being bigger. They look much cooler looking than real helmets. The design is identical to the comic strip version.

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned the look of the truck. Hardly sci-fi looking!

I don't think that's a big deal but thought it was worth mentioning.

I hope there are few examples of future Mega-City 1-ness in the film. We don't want it looking too modern! It's called Mega-City 1 for a reason!!!!

That looks NOTHING like Mega City! Jesus it's the only thing they got right in the Stallone movie and here they get it utterly and completely wrong!

Seeing the lawmaster made me feel like a kid again but I think Dredd 2012 may be in trouble if people see 'Dredd' - the toughest lawman of the future - chasing a van/truck from the 1970/80s. This does look a bit too cheap. Judge Dredd is meant to be ultra-sci-fi. Dredd doesn't chase 20th century vans (well, not unless they're antique ones that perps have stolen from a museum or a collector's home).

This is very concerning because a cheap looking Judge Dredd film is asking for derision. The geek in me loved seeing Dredd chase a truck but then I thought "a van from the 20th century? That's all wrong!!!"

The film could be cool but that van scene is just wrong. PERIOD. It's like Superman with ginger hair or Batman with a British accent. That would be wrong. Dredd chasing 20th century vehicles is so alien to the concept of the character and his world that it's virtually impossible to accept it. It's so jarring and out of place. It looks crazy cheap! :(
