Zack Snyder's Justice League is nearly here, and we recently had the opportunity to talk to Zack and Deborah Snyder during a roundtable to promote the movie's March 18th release on Sky Cinema and NOW TV. It was around this time that "#RestoreTheSnyderVerse" started trending worldwide on Twitter, and we couldn't help but wonder whether a sequel might be coming down the line.
Of course, Zack has gone on record to say he believes Warner Bros. has no interest in continuing this story on film, but what about in comic book form? On white boards detailing the plot of two Justice League sequels which have been put on display at an exhibition in Dallas, Texas, comic book artist and DC Comics Publisher Jim Lee actually provided artwork to give us an idea of what to expect.
So, surely they could team-up for a "Snyder Cut" comic book sequel, right? Here's what Zack told us:
I watched the film last night, and like everyone else here, I loved it. When I woke up this morning, though, I saw that #RestoreTheSnyderVerse was trending. I know, Zack, you've said you're not sure about a movie sequel, but would you consider a comic book one? I feel like you and Jim Lee together could do something really special...
Yeah. I talked to Jim about it. We literally had a plan to do a comic book [as] a huge run. We were basically going to do a comic book based on the white board I released in Dallas. Well, that I have up in Dallas. I don't think it was released...that was problematic [Laughs]. I know you've all seen it, though, so it's not like you haven't! So, there was a comic book we were going to base on that, and then I wanted to do a mini run on The Joker/Robin [story] on what was happening with Batman, what was happening with Joker, and what was happening with Robin. It would have been just that story as its own microstory. We were both super into it, but I think when there was the AT&T thing and a bunch of switches and cuts, so it got cut, but [Jim] said, 'Maybe in the future if there's fan support.' We'll see.
Fingers crossed. Thank you so much - you should be very proud of the film; it's incredible.
Thank you!
It's entirely possible that a movie sequel will happen, especially if the global response to Zack Snyder's Justice League is big enough to make WarnerMedia realise a follow-up would be a wise investment (whether it makes a difference to HBO Max subscriber numbers is also going to be crucial).
Failing that, these comic book follow-ups would be pretty incredible, with the spinoff focusing on Batman, Robin, and Joker something which would fill in a big gap in the DCEU's history. How do we help make them a reality? Well, supporting #RestoreTheSnyderVerse would be a good start...
Zack Snyder's Justice League available on Sky Cinema and NOW TV from 18 March.
