We're entering the 2nd round of the Comic Book Movie Villain Tournament 2015. Most of the weaksauce got eliminated pretty quick, and some of the smaller names reminded us why they are smaller names. Some favorites lost out first round too. I was really pulling for Catwoman. A few surprises came through. As of this writing, Lex Luthor, who was the #1 seed in "Suits & Geniuses" got knocked out with the #8 by a 48%/51% vote. Some other matchups were closer than I expected as well. (Kevin vs Bullseye was neck and neck for a while.)
This tournament is based on movie performances, so there is a lot to consider. One of the marquee matchups this weekend is
General Zod vs Zod. We've got a couple of Nolan v Nolan face-offs this week, and I wonder if
Bane could destroy
Ra's Al Ghul in a fight. If the coin had flipped up bad heads, would
Two-Face shoot
The Joker dead?
It will be interesting to see who gets the farthest not because of their reputation on the page, but by what they did on the screen. Let's move voting along and see what other landslides and upsets we can create.! You can see the
whole bracket here.
ROYALTY, RULERS, & GODS
Loki (
Thor, The Avengers) vs.
Prince Nuada (
Hellboy 2: The Golden Army)
Loki makes short work of Gabriel, and Nuada carves Xerxes to bits! Now, the two face each other.
Zod (
Superman II) vs.
General Zod (
Man of Steel)
This is one of the great debates. Only one Kryptonian can move on to conquer the tournament!
SUITS & GENIUSES
Ozymandias (
Watchmen) vs.
Obadiah Stane (
Iron Man)
Stane puts Riddler out of business pretty quick. Ozymandias saw Alex Pierce coming from a mile away.
Sebastian Shaw (
X-Men First Class) vs.
Richmond Valentine (
Kingsman: The Secret Service)
Shaw smirks an absorbs everything Killian throws at him. In a
shocking upset, Valentine adds Lex Luthor to his collection! Ha!
MILITANTS & COMMANDERS
Red Skull (Captain America: The First Avenger) vs.
Magneto (
X-Men First Class, Days of Future Past)
Red Skull's resources outmatch Stryker's. But this is a fight that could get personal...
Ra's Al Ghul (
Batman Begins) vs.
Bane (
The Dark Knight Rises)
Well this should be interesting! Who truly has the power to get things done?
CRIME BOSSES
Frank D'Amico (
Kick-Ass) vs.
Madeline Madrigal (
Dredd)
Frank doesn't have time for Big Boy's games. Now her faces Ma-Ma, who's as ruthless as they come.
The Kingpin (
Daredevil) vs.
The Penguin (
Batman Returns)
The Penguin calls Top Dollar's bluff. Howard Saint doesn't even register on The Kingpin's radar.
TRANSFORMED MONSTERS
Doctor Octopus (
Spider-Man 2) vs.
Venom (
Spider-Man 3)
The Spidey villains are narrowed down a bit. The men inside are being controlled.
Dark Phoenix (
X3: The Last Stand) vs.
The Abomination (
The Incredible Hulk)
Phoenix glares Frost into oblivion. Can she do the same to The Abomination?
WEAPONIZED FOES
Green Goblin (
Spider-Man) vs.
Dr. Doom (
Fantastic Four)
Scarecrow got beat by a Katie Holmes. There wasn't much of a chance against Goblin. Doom is next.
Ivan Vanko (
Iron Man 2) vs.
The Winter Soldier (
Captain America: The Winter Soldier)
Vanko makes short work of Freeze, and The Winter Soldier simply out-fights the robo samurai.
PSYCHOS & FREAKS
Joker (
Batman) vs.
Kevin (
Sin City)
Jack's Joker exposes Harry Osborne for the child he is. In the closest race
, by one vote, Kevin murders Bullseye.
Two-Face (
The Dark Knight) vs.
The Joker (
The Dark Knight)
Tommy Lee Jones was out of control, and he got exploited. While Maguire was stalking Sullivan, The Joker was stalking him. Now we've got a Dark Knight showdown!
DEADLY FEMALES
Faora (
Man of Steel) vs.
Mystique (
X-Men Days of Future Past)
Faora is just too fast for Ursa. Mystique's agility pays off against Catwoman.
Viper (
The Wolverine) vs.
Artemisia (
300: Rise of an Empire)
Ivy showed no physical skill whatsoever, and Viper knows it. Eva Green's commander shows the tenacity that Talia Al Ghul never did.
