Boasting a star-studded ensemble cast, Maybe I Do stars Diane Keaton, Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon, Emma Roberts, Luke Bracey and William H. Macy in a multi-generational romantic comedy.
Michelle (Roberts) and Allen (Bracey) have reached the point in their relationship to take the next steps toward marriage. Thinking it is a good idea to invite their parents to finally meet, they set a dinner and make it a family affair. To everyone’s surprise, the affair takes on a whole new meaning as the parents already know each other all too well - they’ve been cheating on their spouses for months...with each other.
Trapped in this precarious predicament, they try to hide their dalliances from the kids while confronting their spouse’s lovers head-on. Let the games begin!
Now, it goes without saying that Richard Gere is a Hollywood legend, and while he's perhaps best known for movies like Pretty Woman and An Officer and a Gentleman, the actor has typically shied away from big budget blockbusters.
In recent years, we've seen the likes of Robert Redford, Helen Mirren, and Harrison Ford enter the genre, with Gere's co-star in Maybe I Do, Susan Sarandon, set to play the lead villain in Blue Beetle this summer. When we had the opportunity to speak with the iconic actor, we asked if he'd be open to following her into a superhero project.
"It would depend on the quality," Gere responds in the video above. "If they’re formulas, I’m probably not interested, but if there’s something quirky and unexpected and it doesn’t just end up with a big fight at the end of the movie - which they all do - it might be of interest to me, sure!"
It's true that the vast majority of superhero movies wrap up with an effects-laden fight scene, though there has been a handful that don't necessarily head down the expected route.
We'd love to see Gere consider taking a crack at the genre, anyway, and can't help but think filmmakers like James Gunn and Ryan Coogler might be able to tempt him into giving a comic book movie a chance. You never know what project that fits the criteria might come along, so fingers crossed that a future Marvel or DC title gets the actor to reconsider.
Who do you think Richard Gere could play in the MCU or DCU?
Maybe I Do arrives in theaters on January 27.
