Marvel Studios Dates FOUR New Untitled Movies For 2024 - Are X-MEN, CAPTAIN AMERICA 4 & DEADPOOL 3 Incoming?

While they have five films scheduled to open in 2023, it looks like Marvel Studios is scaling back a bit and will only be releasing four untitled films in 2024 - all of which have now been dated.

Breaking news out of Marvel Studios this afternoon, as we now have four prime 2024 release dates for future big-screen projects. New Marvel Cinematic Universe films have officially been scheduled to open on February 16, 2024; May 3, 2024; July 26, 2024; and November 8, 2024.

At first glance, they've scheduled one less release than 2023, but considering a Spider-Man: No Way Home sequel starring Tom Holland will presumably also make its way to theaters at some point in 2023 or 2024, the studio might be leaving the door open for Sony Pictures to announce that gargantuan follow-up, possibly in December of that year.

As for what the now-scheduled Untitled Marvel Films could ultimately turn out to be, well, there's a lot of in-development projects to choose from. The most obvious bets are Jon Watts' Fantastic Four and Bassam Tariq's Blade starring Mahershala Ali, but both are also heavily rumored to debut on one of the mystery 2023 dates.

Deadpool 3 starring Ryan Reynolds and Captain America 4 starring Anthony Mackie are almost definitely set to open on one of the new dates, and it seems like a strong possibility that the X-Men will make their MCU feature film debut sometime in 2024 - unless Marvel Studios opts for solo films to introduce mutants into the MCU.

It's uncertain when we could get an official announcement, but based on how they handled things last year, we probably won't have a clearer picture of what to expect from Phase Four or Phase Five until Disney+ Day on November 12, at the earliest. The safest bet for official announcements is likely the next Disney Investor Day.

Here's an updated look at Marvel Studios' upcoming release schedule:

  • Eternals (November 5, 2021)
  • Spider-Man: No Way Home (December 17, 2021) - Co-production with Sony Pictures
  • Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (March 25, 2022)
  • Thor: Love and Thunder (May 6, 2022)
  • Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (July 8, 2022)
  • The Marvels (November 11, 2022)
  • Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (February 17, 2023)
  • Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (May 5, 2023)
  • Untitled Marvel Film (July 28, 2023) -- Rumored release date for Fantastic Four
  • Untitled Marvel Film (October 6, 2023) -- Rumored release date for Blade
  • Untitled Marvel Film (November 10, 2023)
  • Untitled Marvel Film (February 16, 2024)
  • Untitled Marvel Film (May 3, 2024)
  • Untitled Marvel Film (July 26, 2024)
  • Untitled Marvel Film (November 8, 2024)

In related news, Walt Disney Studios has also confirmed that Ridley Scott's The Last Duel (October 15), Ron's Gone Wrong (October 22), Chloe Zhao's Eternals (November 5), Steven Spielberg's West Side Story (December 10), Guillermo del Toro's Nightmare Alley (December 17), and Matthew Vaughn's The King's Man (December 22) will all receive exclusive theatrical releases, with 45-day windows, this year.

Encanto (November 24) will also open in theaters, but will head to Disney+ after a shortened 30-day theatrical window.

Rob Marshall's upcoming live-action The Little Mermaid, which stars Halle Bailey as Ariel, has been dated for May 26, 2023.

To add to this theatrical slate, I'm expecting a NWH sequel aka fourth Tom Holland Spider-man film. Maybe even more collaborations like Kraven and Jessica Drew.

@MCUKnight11 - Thanks to the MCU, Spiderman is a powerhouse again, and may reach Avengers levels. The last one made 1.1 billion, the lowest avengers movie, age of Ultron, made 1.4. This is the going on post Covid era for movie theaters, So I’m not expecting the old numbers, but whatever the new numbers are, it will be interesting to see if the next Spiderman in the next avengers are in the same ballpark.

@MCUKnight11 - Scuttlebut is the new Sony-Marvel deal is one final MCU solo film & then 2 cameos/roles in bigger team-up?

jarcastanon - 9/10/2021, 3:13 PM
@nmasterofnaught - I'm sure the deal will extend as soon as Venom 2 bombs and NWH makes at least a billion.

@jarcastanon - I still haven't seen Venom 1, critical consensus suggests it wasn't well received, but the 1st one did make ~800Million+.

The new one is only ~90mins!!! More screenings back to back. I'm not sure it can bomb - if even half the people turn up from the first films audience. Not to mention it did well in China & the 2nd will probably get the green-light even though Shang-chi (of all films) probably won't!!! What a world.

@nmasterofnaught - I heard on Youtube that the movie might make over $580 million. That'll probably be enough for Sony to start cancelling out their Spider-Verse plans and give 50% control of the Spider-Man IP to Disney/Marvel.

@MCUKnight11 - No way home is the last mcu spiderman movie, Tom Holland has a team up role coming and then he is back at Sony’s venom universe. My guess Doctor Strange 2 and spidey will be sent out of the mcu at the end of it

@brodie999 - What? $580M is more than good enough in today's market.
brodie999
brodie999 - 9/10/2021, 4:37 PM
@LlamaLord - But would it be good enough if Venom 2 needed to hit at least $600-700 million? We don't know how much money it needs to make a profit yet. My guess, if word-of-mouth is bad enough, projections will be decreased to $450 million.

@brodie999 - I dunno whose getting early projections this early? I follow Dan Murell on youtube for BO, but that's after the fact.

ATM it's just a prediction, but you definitely raise a good point about Sony mismanagement especially with Avi Arad still leading the Sony films & worse yet Tom Rothman (the guy who zipped up Deadpools mouth). These guys played hard ball with Marvel & Disney - presumably to get a better deal or at least a better release date on NWH.

That's why I'd agree that this could be the Last MCU Spider-man film if Venom 2 succeeds - they we're just using Feige & Marvel to re-energize the SM brand.

@jarcastanon - God I hope it bombs if it means Sony chases that MCU dollar again and re-ups. I know that sounds incredibly selfish of me but

I don’t care.

@heyy1 - I'm guessing NWH is the last Spidey solo film. Then he won't make another appearance until their big multiverse, end-game style finale movie where tons of characters are likely to pop up from alternate timelines. And that will be his send off.

Think about it. It will give Sony time to establish Tom Holland Spidey in their Sony-verse, he will have been gone from the MCU for a while, then they can advertise the hell out of his final appearance in the MCU when Secret Wars comes out. And they'll likely fix the muktiverse in Secret Wars, and they can send Spidey back to Sony for good.

That's all assuming Marvel and Sony don't make another deal.

@CorndogBurglar - I like what you're saying, but this will be all dependant on Sony not ruining spiderman before the crossover. And this is a very big if.

I like X-Men more than F4 and yet I wanna see an F4 movie more than an X-Men movie. I think it's because we have had at least more than one decent X-Men movie and yet we've not had one good F4 movie.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 9/11/2021, 12:22 PM
@tb86 - We've had a couple decent X-Men movies. But we haven't really had any with a satisfying team that was done right.

Even Days of Future Past, easily the best X-Men film, didn't get the characters or teams even close to right.
TheWalkingCuban
TheWalkingCuban - 9/11/2021, 5:35 PM
@CorndogBurglar - the future folks were namby pamby for a reason, I mean they had to get straight molliwopped by the sentinels for plot purposes… but man were they Mickey Mouse. Ah, I’m sure that’s just cuz I ain’t currently watching it. Cut it on and that part always grips me.

I also forgot Deadpool 3 could be one of these dates!
