MEN IN BLACK INTERNATIONAL Producer Is Hopeful To Build And Expand A Cinematic Universe

Interwoven movie franchises and crossovers are all the rage and if the MiB creative team has anything to say, Hemsworth and Thomspon may be spearheading another big cinematic universe. Check it out!

The original Men in Black trilogy began in 1997, over two decades ago, and it's safe to say that fans were surprised to see that the series was being reboot. It seems however, that if things are successful with the new film that fans won't have to wait very long between Men in Black films in the future.

With director F. Gary Gray taking the new team of Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thomspon (Thor Ragnarok, Avengers: Endgame) accross the world, it seems that the new movie is shaking the dust off of what was once a very popular franchise and injecting into cinemas with new life at a time when movies have begun to adopt a new type of storytelling - interwoven and interconnected.

With Marvel Studios, Sony, Warner Brothers, and countless others proving that there is more money in a fleshed out universe, the producers are paying attention. Here is what Producer Walter Parkes had to say about how this new movie might go about setting up a shared universe of their own.

We imply that we have [headquarters in] other places and in prior drafts of the script we did [see them]. But in terms of effective storytelling, we just didn’t find a way to come about that. But, if the film’s successful, we’ll certainly be going to new headquarters throughout the world.

Parkes also made sure to add that they recognize the success that other studios are having and that is why they are choosing to take this path should they become successful with their new film.

What you say about the expansion of the cinematic universe is absolutely true. I think that’s one of the most exciting things about the last 15 years that these big [franchises] exist. And what excites me is that it’s expansion -- not so much in other movies, but in other media. You know, there’s digital expressions of this, and VR expressions of this... So I think you can build out the universe, even around this movie. And I think that’s very much what modern franchises do.

What do you guys think? Is this the sort of movie franchise that would benefit in fleshing out across several films, or do you think they're just jumping on the bandwagon? Check out the trailer for Men in Black International and let us know your thoughts below!

@MalseMarcel - It was very close to becoming a thing. They even had an official production logo already:

It's a shame it didn't come to fruition. I would absolutely LOVE to see Tatum and Hill in the MIB-world.

Does anyone actually still care about Men In Black. Especially without Jones and Smith.
Maybe try a new take on the series, maybe closer to the tone of the original comic
