Guillermo del Toro Possibly Wants To Take On Van Helsing?

Another telling of the famed vampire hunter is in the works and del Toro is involved..............................................

Pajiba is reporting that Universal is working on a new Van Helsing movie that has no connections to the widely panned Stephen Sommers film of the same name. The new movie is being developed at del Toro's production house and will be based on a forthcoming treatment written by Guillermo del Toro himself. It is being described as an “action horror story.” Since this is just in the treatment stage it will be some time, if ever, that we see this get off the ground." />

While del Toro certainly has some familiarity with vampires in his book The Strain and directing Blade 2, there certainly seem to be some other big movies he has been attached to such as Hellboy 3, Deadman, Dr. Strange, Frankenstein and Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde that he could get going on now that he has walked away from The Hobbit.

SWEET!!!! anything Del Toro does is sweet. I hope he brings us a cool and atmospheric movie
StuckInPanels - 6/10/2010, 5:34 PM

CaptainAmerica - 6/10/2010, 5:37 PM
Im glad more Mexican directors are getting big, theres still alot more that havent been discovered yet.
CaptainAmerica - 6/10/2010, 5:38 PM
AMEN TO THAT GRIF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
InTylerWeTrust - 6/10/2010, 5:39 PM
Grif: Damn straight man. Del Toro needs to finish his Hellboy trilogy. And then he can move right into Dr. Strange. Del Toro and Doc S. is a match made in heaven.
AshleyWilliams - 6/10/2010, 5:42 PM
He is perfect for Hellboy,Dr Strange,Deadman,Van Helsing, and many more.
I would be interested in seeing him do a Batman movie once Nolan is done.
CaptainAmerica - 6/10/2010, 5:43 PM
Tyler, i want him to direct any [frick]ing Marvel film lol but he would be a perfect match for Dr. Strange
InTylerWeTrust - 6/10/2010, 5:48 PM
Cap: Amen to that. We'd be lucky to have Del Toro on any CBM. But him directing Doc Strange would be the greatest thing to happen in the history of great things.
CaptainAmerica - 6/10/2010, 5:55 PM
And we would be lucky to get Teabag to direct The Avengers XXX
DogsOfWar - 6/10/2010, 6:16 PM
Dr. Strange or Deadman would be great but I'd really like to see the 3rd installment of Hellboy.

A new spin on Van Helsing could be cool if done right.
CaptainAmerica - 6/10/2010, 6:30 PM
The main villian can be Ultron after he controls all of Wasp's vibrators and they start attacking our beloved Avengers.
SHAZAM171 - 6/10/2010, 6:32 PM
Agreed @Grif, Just do HELLBOY 3 already, Sheesh.

Shaman - 6/10/2010, 6:48 PM
But... WHY???

Swamp Thing
Tomb of Dracula
Dr. Strange
Hellboy 3

These are the movies he should be doing, not [frick]ing Van Helsing!!! Hell, i'd even LOVE for him to tackle a Never Ending Story remake but... [frick]ing Van Helsing??? [frick] NO!!!
thwhtGuardian - 6/10/2010, 6:54 PM
What ever he wants to do is fine by me, the man is a god.
fanboiii - 6/10/2010, 7:04 PM
Yeah, I just want to see him finish a new movie.

hellboy 2 is f***ing amazing. He just set aside everything do Hellboy 3 and adapt Strain into a film cuz that book was epic.
Spock - 6/10/2010, 7:11 PM

The last Van Helsing was just fine, he is leaving us with our thumbs up our but!
LEEE777 - 6/10/2010, 7:13 PM
WTF is wrong with HOLLYWOOD?!?

: /
DaenerysTargaryen - 6/10/2010, 7:34 PM
why? Because he feels like directing it, THAT'S WHY! ;)
Montross - 6/10/2010, 7:36 PM
We already have Van Helsing. We don't need another one. It's time for Hellboy 3. Ron's not getting any younger.
LOL - 6/10/2010, 7:44 PM
Screw Van Helsing, we need a Castlevania movie already!!
FoxForce5 - 6/10/2010, 7:45 PM
Relax guys... nothing said that GDT was looking at directing this instead of doing anything else, it just said that he was doing a treatment and maybe a script but he may verywell just produce (like he did on The Orphanage) but weather he directs this, Dr. Strange, Deadman or whatever else, I'm sure that whatever he does will be awsome like everthing else he's done up till now.
ElBicho - 6/10/2010, 7:46 PM
Could be flippin' awesome!!!
ecksmanfan - 6/10/2010, 7:53 PM
If you ask me, del Toro could direct a movie about a dog taking a giant crap and it would be an amazing film. Although Van Helsing wouldn't be my favorite choice for him, he'd definitely add a unique spin to the story.
MassExecutions1 - 6/10/2010, 8:13 PM
Yes, Hellboy 3, then Dr. Strange, the Castlevania (great idea from above) but really whatever he thinks is the best projects in front of him is the one he should do. I defer to his GENIUS!
spidersmurf - 6/10/2010, 8:37 PM
Hmmm is he gonna ditch this movie too?
Wadey09 - 6/10/2010, 9:21 PM
i hope does Doctor Strange. he is just the man for the job to bring all of the 'Strange' mysticism to life!!!!
but contrary to popular opinion, i actually liked Van Helsing from 2004 and hope they leave it be.
isn't someone also making a Dracula film?

if you haven’t seen Part VII of my Spider-man story, just click the pic!!!

supermarioworldE - 6/10/2010, 9:52 PM
Kind of a step backwards, isn't it?
blankofthedead - 6/10/2010, 10:15 PM
hellboy 2 was absolute garbage.. visuals saved the movie to the status of garbage.. otherwise itd have been worse than that. and this is a dumb idea
Minotauro - 6/10/2010, 10:16 PM
This is really, really, really, intriguing!...

This guy is a master of art when it comes to make-up design and costumes.. This movie might look glorious..

@Blank - I don't think you know what a good movie really is..
MassExecutions - 6/11/2010, 4:44 AM
@blankofthedead - If you are saying this might be a was of his talents compared to other projects, then maybe. If you are saying this will be a bad movie, then HIGHLY UNLIKELY. Haven't seen Del Toro make one of those yet.
AlexDeLarge87 - 6/11/2010, 4:52 AM
Definitely The Tomb of Dracula! That movie would be so f*cking awesome!!!!:D

James Caviezel or Christian Bale as Count Dracula
James McAvoy or Ewan McGregor as Frank Drake
Sienna Miller as Dr. Rachel Van Helsing
William Hurt or Ed Harris as Dr. Quincy Harker
Chiwetel Ejiofor as The Classic Version of Blade
Al Pacino, Javier Bardem or Max Von Sydow as The Church of Satan´s Leader, Anton Lupeski
Lynn Collins as Domini
Alice Braga or Sienna Guillory as Lilith
Michael Fassbender as Hannibal King
Ron Perlman as Varnae
Charlie Hunnam as Janus
John Malkovich as Deacon Frost
LEEE777 - 6/11/2010, 6:42 AM
superdog - 6/11/2010, 6:43 AM
in this order, hellboy 3, deadman, dr. strange, the strain.
MassExecutions - 6/11/2010, 6:55 AM
@AlexDeLarge666 - that... is... GREAT!
AlexDeLarge87 - 6/11/2010, 7:03 AM
MassExecutions@ I thought so!:D
McLovin - 6/11/2010, 7:22 AM
Anything del Toro touches turns to GOLD! Except for Hell Boy 2 which was more like Bronze ...

Thanks Dogs, great article ;-)

gotta go now, the WORLD CUP JUST STARTED!!!!!!!!!!!
MassExecutions - 6/11/2010, 7:38 AM
Man, when Hellboy 2 is the worst movie you've made...
