Pajiba is reporting that Universal is working on a new Van Helsing movie that has no connections to the widely panned Stephen Sommers film of the same name. The new movie is being developed at del Toro's production house and will be based on a forthcoming treatment written by Guillermo del Toro himself. It is being described as an “action horror story.” Since this is just in the treatment stage it will be some time, if ever, that we see this get off the ground.

While del Toro certainly has some familiarity with vampires in his book The Strain and directing Blade 2, there certainly seem to be some other big movies he has been attached to such as Hellboy 3, Deadman, Dr. Strange, Frankenstein and Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde that he could get going on now that he has walked away from The Hobbit.
