FAN-ticizing: The Direction I'd have liked the Spidey reboot to taken

With the up coming reboot on its way I want to take a moment to express the route I feel the reboot should have taken.

Right so this is my first article so please bare with me, first let me say I'm a British film student who is a life time lover of comics. Mainly Marvel but I do enjoy some DC *cough* *cough* Batman.

ANYWAY I think I've valid to say and a direction for the reboot which I feel would have made the fans myself including quite happy.

When Marc Webb was announced as the director of the reboot, I was like wow radical choice for such a big title truthfully i'd only known him from (500) Days of Summer. Which I really enjoyed, especially the realistic portrayal of young adult human relationships.

When Andrew Garfield was announced I was like WHAT THE F**K ! ! ! British actor, ok didn't expect that. Then I realised that I had seen him in a two part episode of Dr Who : "Daleks in Manhattan" and "Evolution of the Daleks". Which he gave a great performance and proved he can archive a thick New York accent. But also that he was in "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus", an strange and weird British film , where he played an extremely energetic and dry humoured sprite of character. It was this performance that sold him to me as Spiderman. But it was his portrayal of Eduardo Saverin in "The Social Network" that sold him to me as Peter Parker. Also for those who can vote please vote for a BAFTA the Orange Wednesday Rising star award. Literally you cannot get more of a rising star, TV programs, a weird and wonderful fairytale from a well known director, a highly acclaimed Oscar worthy film, a small indie film on the way. And is about to become a pop culture icon when he dons the spandex. Link to vote is below.

Right so that's the ground work done, the reboot was looking good from this point. THEN ! ! !

Rhys Ifans was cast as the Dr Connors, which I'll admit I was surprised at but don't get me wrong I did like (slightly). But I was hoping that at least for the first film there'd be no Lizard, heres why. ANYONE and I don't care who they are would not be able to take on a massive deadly wild predator a couple of weeks after being given superpowers. Also I'm pretty sure a sane choice and one a majority of people wanted was to see Lizard AND Kraven in the same film (just not the first one).

Then Irrfan Khan was cast as Nels Van Adder/ Proto-Goblin. Right have Adder in it as like a scientist, yeah I'll go with that. But to have a villain hardly anyone knows about when Spidey's rogues gallery sports so many villain, I think is just stupid. It's worse then when it was rumoured that Morlun might have been fought Spidey in number 4.

I feel number 1 should have laid all their cards on the table, a film where we establish all the characters and their relationships. I like that Gwen Stacey is the main love interest, but I still feel Mary-Jane should at least be in the film. and truth be told I would have liked a love triangle where a nerdy Gwen Stacey (like in the TV Spectacular Spiderman series), pines for Peter while he is lusting after Mary-Jane. I also feel we should see Eddie Brock in the scene at the high school, as if an old school friend like Ultimate Spiderman. Also why is there no news on Harry or Norman Osbourne I would have thought they would have been cast straight away. Jason Issacs (Hello to Jason Issacs) for Norman as a kind of Emperor Palpatine figure lurking through the series, pulling all the strings.

So enough here is how I feel number one of the reboot should have gone. Not everyone will like it but...you gotta love those haters (CTFxC FTW).

Here we go and the main Villain is.......KINGPIN. In the early Ultimate Spiderman series Kingpin was one of the villains. I would have also like to have seen SHOCKER and HAMMERHEAD as the Kingpins two main henchmen. These are to well known villains who have not been seen before in the film series but would transcend from paper to film quite easily.

So why Kingpin, I feel it would have be good to tell that Richard and Mary Parker were SHIELD spies WHICH THEY WERE. Who were assigned to infiltrate the Kingpins organisation. When they were caught the Kingpin had them killed and Peter then became under the guardianship of Ben and May Parker. But the Kingpin just doesn't kill you, he kills your whole family and this starts with Uncle Ben. I would have liked to have seen Nick Fury in the film who tells Peter his past but like Ben Kenobi in New Hope only tells him small parts of the truth, warning him to stay away from the Kingpin otherwise he'll end up like his parents and his uncle. Having Shocker and Hammerhead allows for some great fights throw out the film and having Kingpins leads to one great confrontation at the end (yes it sounds exactly like the ending to Daredevil, but he's a punk and Spidey isn't :D ).

I like the fact of bringing villains that haven't had a chance of be on screen getting that chance but only if they are a strong enough character. I'd also like to see Electro, Scorpion, Kraven and Carnage on screen. But I do feel to do a complete Spiderman series we will again see the Green Goblin, Doc Ock and Venom (with Carnage).

Looking back at Raimi's series the thing i hate the most is the title sequences, they were so so sooooo boring and whenever watching the DVD's I just skip them. That is time at the beginning of the film wasted on nothing. This time can be devoted to smaller villains (like Scarecrow in The Dark Knight) such as Mysterio, Rhino and Vulture. No need to tell origins they are there to set the beginning of the film and to show Spidey's everyday occurrences and more of his rogues gallery.

So this has been a really long winded way around of saying I like the idea of a reboot the same as I like the idea of just carrying on doing Spiderman 4 with a new director and new cast. But I feel massive opportunities may have been missed in this reboot, because no one I MEAN NO ONE wants another reboot to a reboot. If you could leave some comments that'd be great, be gentle though I know I don't have pictures (mainly because I don't know how to do that) and there is a lot of text but I had a lot of thoughts to get out.

This is Mr. Blonde signing off saying "Was that as good for you as it was for me? "

getting the right back isn't exactly easy when other studios dont want to give it up.
