With 10 comic book movies being released this year it should keep comic fans busy throughout 2010. With the success of comic book related movies, studios are being bolder with what properties they are putting into production. In a genre that in past years was dominated by men in tights, it has now become more diverse.

This is what Stephen Christy, director of development for Archaia Comics had to say on the topic: "The big goal going forward for smaller, independent publishers is to bring new and exciting, non-superhero material into the market. I think for comics in general, the wonderful thing that has happened toward the end of the last decade is people have been realizing what we in the industry have known forever – that there are all different kinds of stories being told in comics. Movies are bringing that idea to a wider audience."

Out of the 10 movies being released this year, only 3 are traditional superhero-based movies and that may be pushing it. So what are your thoughts on the shift to more non-superhero related comics being produced?

The 10 comic based movies being released this year:

1.Dead of Night
2.The Green Hornet
3.Iron Man 2
4.Jax of Heart
5.Jonah Hex
6.Kick-Ass
7.The Losers
8.Priest
9.Red
10.Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

EDITOR NOTE: Hey, don't forget Woody Harrelson's Defendor! It debuted at a festival in 2009, but won't get a wide release until this year!
