IF you thought Watchmen was un-filmable check out these...

Greetings friends. This has been a question that I have thinking about and I'm sure most have. We are gonna run out of comic book's to make into films, we will have tons of sequels and remakes but at some point they will be searching for bankable titles. Watchmen was one that had a huge history to it, from different casts, directors, scripts, and studios. We finally got it and I enjoyed it for what it was. However, I have thought of the term un-filmable comic, theres plenty of others out there, so heres 5 that I believe will most likely never see the silver screen.

#5. Blue Beetle(DC)- this is a title that has consisted of different people under the mantle. The most recent is Jaime Reyes, a Latino kid who has an alien bio-suit. The problem: too unknown of a character, part of a deeper universe, and a legacy hero.

#4. Teen Titans(DC)- Now theres mention of the film being in development but its been quiet ever since. I loved the cartoon and loved The Judas Contact. The problem: Diverse characters, origins would be abridged, No robin in "nolan"verse, and roster selection

#3.Runaways(Marvel)- sorta of a counter to the teen titans, THe runaways are about a group of kids who find out there parents are all super villains. I only read up the end of the first volume before the skrull invasion and so I don't know what's happened beyond that, but I thought it should have ended there and the characters join other books. The problem: only one is that they are immersed in the main universe. The group has a mutant and an alien girl. They met and fought cloak and dagger and meet captain America. So until a proper and larger universe is established, I can't see this being made soon.

#2. Planetary(Wildstorm)- I'm still reading volume one and so far I find it a hard read but I'm enjoying the complexity. From what I got from this its about an X-file like group deal with anything thats beyond the normal or unexplained. The problem: full of multiverses, complex characters, and not a coherent series(now I'm still reading it, so don't go crazy on me)

#1. MarvelMan(now own by Marvel)- Where do I begin with this. I found a CBR file of this series and was amazed and blown away by this character and series. Its a take off of Captain Marvel and its a violent take of a 50's character in the modern 80's era. This is probably out of all of Moores work to be impossible to make. The problem: its too good as a comic to be made into a film

And those are 5 comic series I read that would like to see but unlikely. Now I'm sure some form of them will be made and hopefully they get the justice of a good adaptation.

I have to agree with you on the Titans. Judas Contract, great storyling. Very classic. That is the only one of the 5 I see making into a movie. But how to pull it off? I don't know. Seriously, Judas Contract had everything a movie should have, love, honesty, loyalty, betrayal, hopelessness(Dick after the first or second issue of the Storyline) and heroism, bravery against the odds, redemption and death. It has it all. I am sorry to see that not be a movie. Great article. I really like it.

The Blue Beetle would be my next choice, but just so long as they show the first and second Beetle only. But, he isn't very popular as Supes or Bat's. Also, when I watch Mummy I keep thinking about the Original Blue Beetle.

I think we'll see a Teen Titans movie after they do Justice League.Everybody knows Robin is Batman's partner, so he doesn't have to be introduced in the Nolan movies.Look at the Teen Titans cartoon. There were no direct references to Batman, but you still knew they were connected. As for the other characters, you could have them cameo in their mentors' solo movies, before getting their own.Use the original 5 in the first, add the others in the second one.I think Deathstroke should be the second film, as you would need to build up the relationships before he tries to wreck them.

Runaways could be a really good film, but it does deal with other superheroes, who currently don't exist in the filmverse, yet.But then again, that could work out.In the comics, they had to fight their parents alone, because they didn't trust adults, and all the other heroes lived way in New York.Well, maybe in the movie, they have to fight them alone because no other heroes exist to help them, yet.

Here's the problem with Planetary. From what I've read, alot of the series plays on parodies or alternate versions of superheroes/pulp heroes, sci-fi and fantasy. Now, that works in a comic book, because there are tons of material to parody and we as comic book fans will get it and understand it.I think all of that would be lost in translation when you go to film.Basically you'll have a comic book that plays off of other comic books and literature that has become a film that plays off of comic books and literature. It wouldn't work.As a comic book fan I would get a reference to Doc Savage or the Wold Newton family.Average moviegoers would not.If they did make it, they would end up tweaking the original storyline to play off of characters that a mass audience would recognize. It wouldn't be the book you read.

@Black Where are you up to in the story? It starts of really slow but stick with it, pays off in the end.

@Kenny Did you read the whole Planetary series? What did you think of it? My favorite was the rendezvous with Rama issue. That's a wow factor for me, just a stunning issue.

Anyone reading Supergod atm? it is by Warren Ellis also.

@anil
If the Green lantenr film series is more than 3 films then I bet we will see the black lanterns . Though it would be awesome to see Blackest Night be made into a movie, but I don't think that is ever going to happen unless DC makes a film off of every superhero in the Blackest night series, and shows their death, resurection, and all that stuff. It would be near to impossible to make. But whatever.

@starsapphire, perhaps in one of the animated movies they do, I could see this as a possibility. I love blackest night but as a live action it would take a long time til we get one because we need to establish so much history and connections it would be a very expensive film to make. A DC animated film would be the better road

Paulley is right, Runaways has been in pre-production for a while. they are already working on that...who knows if it'll get finished though. i first heard about it a while ago.

but i agree, i would love a runaways movie. the New Avengers/Runaways Civil War tie-ins were the best tie-ins in the entire series.

but Nextwave would be my number one choice!
