1980's film star Corey Haim died last night. Police were called to St. Joseph's hospital in Burbank, CA shortly before 4AM PT to investigate. Although he appeared in many films, Haim is probably best known for his role in The Lost Boys.
R.I.P.
Yahoo has this to add.... According to police, Haim, who had past substance-abuse problems, died at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday of an accidental overdose. He reportedly was found unresponsive at his apartment. He was with his mother at the time of his death. He was later pronounced dead at Providence St. Joseph's Medical Center in Burbank.
CBM Insert: Can't say we didn't see this coming a long time ago. He was drugging from early on--although he'd claimed over and over to be going straight, he never stayed clean long. Even the recent show on A&E The Two Corey's was only watchable because he (and Feldman) were such trainwrecks. And he sabotaged any "come back" with his inability to quit using. One of the final episodes before it went off the air showed him shooting up in his trailer during the Lost Boys sequel, and pissing off the director so much that he got booted off the set. So sad. Let this be a life lesson kiddies. Don't do drugs!
MTV's Splashpage had this relatable bit of commentary...
As the death of actor Corey Haim circulates around the online world today, it's worth noting that "The Lost Boys" star had some connection to the comics world as both a comic book collector and at one point, a character himself.
In fact, it was no coincidence that Sam Emerson, Haim's character in the 1987 vampire film, first encountered the Frog brothers, played by Corey Feldman (who he would go on to co-star with in various other films) and Jamison Newlander, in a boardwalk comic book shop. Prior to kicking off his film career, Haim was an avid comic book collector (as was Feldman), so the setting for their first meeting in the film was a natural, given their interests.
Fans will likely recall that Haim's character was given a stack of vampire-themed comics (including some issues of Marvel's "Tomb of Dracula" series) to learn the ins and outs of their California town's bloodsucker dilemma. But that wasn't the only crossover for Haim with the comics world.
In 2008, Haim's "Lost Boys" character made his comics debut in "The Lost Boys: Reign of Frogs," a four-issue comic book series published by Wildstorm. The miniseries served as a bridge between the original 1987 film and its sequel, 2008's "Lost Boys: The Tribe."
However, other than retaining the name, Haim's character in the comic bore little resemblance to the real-life actor, as the publisher reportedly had issues securing the likeness rights for Haim to use in the series.
