Fox To Reboot Alien : UPDATED No Longer A Reboot

Fox To Reboot Alien : UPDATED No Longer A Reboot

Why is Fox rebooting one of the most successful franchises in movie history? Because of money, and the need to return to the "single alien on a ship" plotline...

Fox feels that the idea of having a bunch of Aliens on screen does not work. So Fox is going back to the one "Alien on a ship" idea we all saw in the first installment Alien. This one Alien picked off the stubborn somewhat snobby crew until only Ripley was alive and available to kick that Alien's acid dripping jabroni jiving simple arse.

What? What did you say? It doesn't matter what you said! When heavy hitters like Michael Costigan, Ridley Scott and even Tony Scott are on board to produce and have asked Carl Rinsch to get above the camera and bring a new Ripley to the silver screen, it would seem that the powers that be have their minds made up on what direction this updated version of Alien will go. Its almost hard to call this a reboot, simply because we saw this idea in Alien. That's what the trades are calling it but I am way more comfortable with calling this a remake.

Wondering who Carl Rinsch is? Me too, I found out that he is commercial/music video director and does work for Scott Free Productions, who is also producing the remake.

Not sure how commercial and music videos relate to one of the most horrifying space story's of all time but hey, its all about who ya know in this business.

I guess the next question is "Who will make a good Ripley?"

UPDATED 6-1-09: Looks like Tony Scott (Producer) delivered some Alien news to Collider.com over the weekend.

The highlight is off course Tony confirmed that this new Alien film is a prequel and not a reboot. I repeat; a prequel and NOT A REBOOT. Tony is not to sure what story they will use but thinks it might swirl around how the Aliens took over the colony in Aliens or how the Alien ship came to land on that planet in the first place.

Tony has also confirmed that Rinsch will be directing. The cameras are expected to roll before the end of this year.

The prequel should involve the predators. I don't see the Aliens being able to have built a ship. I think a movie just with aliens and predators should be made.

It could be interesting to learn about the race that was the "Spacejockey". I hope this project is a good one.

Correct me if im wrong. But in the alien vs predator movie they made it look like predators made the alien for a training aid. If thats the case then the prequel to alien needs to have predators in it to create them.

@Sirprize: At least they aren't rebooting bro.

@Cable82: terrible idea. That is why we have the AVP franchise. and obviously no one is going to suggest the xenomorphs built a ship lol. I wonder if you've even seen the first 2 after that statement. If so, you should clearly remember the remains of an unidentified entity sitting in what appears to be a Captains seat in the alien craft in part one.

@mounter88: Your wrong lol. The Predators didn't create them, they just see the xenomorphs as the perfect prey to hunt, therefor they cultivate them so they have plenty to hunt. Reading the comics will give lots of backstory to this. Predators often take missions to Xenomorph infested worlds to capture a Queen so that they can breed more xenomorphs to hone their hunting skills on. These missions typically end with massive casualties for even the mighty Predators. However, Death in combat is the highest honor a Predator (Yautja is what they call themselves) can attain.

Sometimes and unanswered question is best left unanswered. Who the "spacejockey" was, and how the Aliens got to that planet should be left open to imagination.

Hey MYTH, RORSCACH, SHAMAN, KEEP-IT-REAL, and SIRPRIZE! Check out what I wrote about you guys in the DIE HARD article when you have a chance! :)

Another ALIEN flick isn't a bad thing. Hopefully they go back to their roots and make this one SCARY like the first ALIEN film.

A "dark, chiling, make me jump outta my seat" ALIEN film would be nice. :)

lol no prob Mounted. Aliens and Predators are probably my favorite non-Marvel comic property, so I have a plethora of shit floating around in my brains.

I see Sirprize has quite a knowledge as well.

A movie with just the two species would not be a good investment. And I don't see the genius' at FOX doing that.(sarcastic tone)

I supported every single alien and/or predator movie out there but i just hope this time they don't turn this alien movie all to crap; because the same old storyline again kind of gets boring.

Hey BillyBlack called this one! His idea seemed too good to be true when we all thought it was going to be a reboot. Glad they took their head out of their ass.

oooh i missed all the hoopla over this. So a prequel eh? Yeah, great, whatever..i dont really see the point. The first Alien was a masterpiece, 2nd one was a great action movie, 3rd..was fairly crap but had its moments..as did the 4th, although they were few and far between. People seem to forget that what made those early movies great wasnt just the Aliens, it was Ripley. Look at those AvP pieces of shit for proof

Betty

I called Tony Scott over the weekend and talked him out of the biggest mistake of his career! So he owes me! hahahahh! Yeah this is definitely good news, and almost makes too much sense to be true. Now if only we could get Wonder Woman that whip and cock-ass! ^_^

Rorschach01

Welcome back buddy. Now don't ruin all my good will by reminding the suits about Ripley! Otherwise those retards will have a young, Newt looking, Ripley star in the prequel and get terror induced amnesia at the end.

chortley funny stuff Leee!

Cheers Billy, good to be back. I spent 4 days in Berlin trying to rid Germany of beer..almost succeeded too, but then i got into a fight with Goebbels..or was it a gerbil? Big [frick]in teeth either way! How was yals weekends?

I think it was a travesty the way Fincher killed off Newt and Hicks, just plain SILLY

BillyBlack - 6/1/2009, 3:35 PM
I spent Friday ridding my cabinet of whiskey, which I'm afraid was all too successful. Making Saturday morning's mission an attempt to rid my place of water and aspirin. And I agree Ror, fighting so hard to rescue Newt and Hicks at the end of Aliens, just to lose them before the opening credits are done in the 3rd installment was rather silly. Charles Dutton did some work in that movie though.

LEEE - the upward "bend" to that ship is on point! ^_^

I would like it if FOX wouldnt mess with any of the old Alien films and just take it into another direction.
It would be awesome to see more Alien VS Predator but something that would show us more about the origin of the alien species and the origin of the predator species and how the became the mighty hunters that they are. With little to no human interaction. A really great storyline that others could build and expand upon. All we need is an incredible script and an Action Director who can bring it to life without having to spoon feed us the drama.
BillyBlack
BillyBlack - 6/1/2009, 4:39 PM
Dude Hellmont

The pricetag on something like that would be astronomical. They'd have to make it a straight CGI animated feature, which would be super spendy.
LEEE777
LEEE777 - 6/1/2009, 4:43 PM
@ ROR @ BILLY @ Heh heh heh!

HELLMONT @ I've said stuff like that many times! Infact that was probably the way they was going, though then came the stupid = REMAKE/REBOOT/PREQUELS BUG! An a sad decade of HOLLYWOOD crap to come! ; )

BILLY @ CGI???? No way, they can do it LIVE easy! Whatever you can think of they can do it on film nowadays! CGI sucks, though i'll let Disney an PIXAR off! ; D
BillyBlack
BillyBlack - 6/1/2009, 5:34 PM
Really LEEE777?

You think they can make a good live action Aliens v. Predator without any human interaction? They haven't yet ;) I just can't see that happening. No stars? Just a bunch of guys in suits? I doubt even FOX would put up the money needed to make that work.

I want my Newt movie? Where is my friggin Newt movie...
AHHHFIRMATIVE!

*ahem*

Anyways, I am with Helmont with this whole thing. I would rather see a new direction than a prequel or reimagining. This seems like an interesting premise, but I doubt it can work. The idea of a prequel with a solo alien troublemaker? Hmmmm. What made Alien so scary was that we hadn't seen anything like it before. The slick blackish brown slithering darkness was new to us. Today we are all jaded by the myriad clones and iterations of this premise that I don't see this working unless they go for pure sudden jarring gory deaths out of nowhere and that is not the pyschological madness that is Aliens to me.

I wonder what they really have planned here.
Hellmont
Hellmont - 6/1/2009, 8:07 PM
Every time a predator is around most of the humans die. Only one survivor. Aliens very similar story.
By creating a script without any human leads in the film you depend entirely on the screenplay and music of the film. In this case the script is vital to help determine the screenplay and then its very much up to the director and the director of cinematography to call the shots and allow the film score to be the voice of the actors in the suits.
Taking on an endeavor such as this would be no easy task to accomplish and be successful. It wouldnt be that expensive of a film either. But it would be great to see the origins of the predator species, their government and home world and their training as the hunt/warriors that they are and along side that the origin of the Alien species and how they came about and how these two formidable species crossed paths for the first time and what did the predators do to eradicate and control them? To later have them as a right of passage. That would be pretty BAD ASS
Phinehas
Phinehas - 6/1/2009, 8:19 PM
Hellmont, I agree. Its almost like the human lead was left to tell the story. A human quality that allows us to identify with his/her struggle to survive. The only way to do this without humans would be to personify some creature and their death-struggle.
Betty
Betty - 6/1/2009, 10:38 PM
Writers always have to humanize the story. If it was an all silent alien battle (which would be cool) they think the audience wont get whatever message the story is trying to give us.

I think Pixar does a good job with getting a message across without using any dialogue. They should do the same thing but with aliens and more violence and blood.

Shibazz--I've decided that you are Bizarro-Shibazz. There is another Shibazz out there that makes sense when she talks. I love your imagery, though. Seems like you make sense sometimes and not others. That's it! You are both normal Shibazz and Bizarro-Shibazz all in one body! What dat like?
