Idea: CW's Martain Manhunter Show

Idea: CW's Martain Manhunter Show

I think a show based on Martain Manhunter can work

CW, the TV network that currently producing Arrow and Flash. Personally i feel that CW could do a certain show that would not make much sense but comes from one of the most well known DC Heroes as he is on the Justice League. It would not be that difficult budget wise and would be able to set up a lot of things in the DC Universe. It is the one and only Martain Manhunter. I know it may seem strange why i think he needs a show but here me out on thus one. Here are my ideas for a Martain Manhunter TV Series:
  • The Origin will be similar to the comics with John coming from Mars.

  • Like Arrow i will feature flashbacks to J'onn's time on Mars before the White Martains attacked it

  • The supporting cast will consist of: Jemm. Miss Martain,Courtney Whitmore, Vulcan, Alec Holland, Cripus Allen,  Maggie Sawyer,Gillian B. Loeb,Arnold John Flass ( In the CW Universe they are police officers and work with John Jones who is the Marain Manhunter's idenity) and others
  • The Show will a Crime Drama with an alien theme as John as rouge martians have been hiding in Middletown.

  • The show will have lots of action and effectively  show off Martian Manhunter's powers
  • The show will deal with racism and what it's like for an alien on Earth.

  • As both a detective and a hero J'onn will have to face a lot of villains including:
Bel Juz - A Martain who is living on Earth. She betrayed her race to ally herself with the White Martains. She know works as a spy for the White Martains on Earth.

B'rett - A convict that is captured by D'kay D'razz. Is experminated upon and changes into a human/Martian Hybrid. Forced to work with D'kay to capture Martain Manhunter

D'kay D'razz - A Martain Scientist and a ally of Bel Juz who betrayed the Green Martains. She is now working as a scientists secretly experimenting on prisoners.

Getaway King - A criminal scientist. Finds alien technolgly and uses it to rob banks.

The Headmaster - One of the main villains of the series. An arrogant elitist born to a rich family, deciding to work for the army as a scientists. He inspects Martain Manhunter and is facisanted by him. He betrays the army and is secretly working for Vandal Savage. He builds himself a perfect artifical body and now works for Vandal

The Headmen - Robots build by the Headmaster

The Prophet - A Green Martain who beleives the the Martains were destined to be destory. He allied himself with Bel Juz in order to make it come true. Now works as a religous zelot on Earth.

Malefic - The Twin Brother of J'onn. He was always considered odd by his family due to his obession with a God named Darkseid. He is the real reason why the Martains were destoryed and he recurited other  green Martains and assisted the White Martains in the destruction of the Martains.

Vandal Savage - A Rich Buisnessman who is intrested in the Martain Race. He beleives that he can use the Martain's blood to expand his life

V.U.L.T.U.R.E - An organsation that John is investigasting as a detective.

Love this! Give me some fan casting and more elaborate character descriptions.

Personally I would love to see him be assisted and somewhat mentored by Icon (now that Icon is DC property). Considering that one of the Martian Manhunter's cover is that of a corporate head it would be a nice tie in if he works for him at some point.

Also a big selling point in my opinion is which city you would base him in. Maybe you haven't given it that much thought but I see a lot of potential...

Ps: Text only articles are a bore. Help us see your vision, gives us pics.

Would the racism theme extend to the present story on earth? If so than that doesn't make much sense since nobody knows that John Jones is an alien. That is unless you mean that people will be racist to Martian Manhunter as a superhero.

Not bad, not bad at all. You've clearly read the Ostrander books, so kudos to you. I think since there's so many different versions/origins for the Martian Manhunter and his respective Mars, that your ideas would do well in blending the stories together.

I had a lot of ideas for the White Martians. Apart from the ones on Earth, we don't really get any GREEN Martians traveling about the stars. When the Justice League fought the "Hyperclan", we got the idea that the Whites had been space-faring for a good long time, and likely tried to colonize other planets. In order to give them limitations, I had the idea to make the Whites explorers originally, who committed heresy by leaving Mars. As for the limitation part - I figured Mars itself would be the source of their powers, and that the planet would have a symbiotic relationship with its inhabitants. Leaving would make them weaker, and weaken the planet somewhat.

So over time, the explorers get desperate as their bodies fail out in space. Their telepathy is only possible through intense concentration and is painful, and their bodies are likewise in constant agony when they try to shapeshift, as not all of their bones and organs shift along. Their offspring becomes solely concerned with survival, so they create a clone race (what would later be known as the Saturnians) for a labor force. The grandchildren of the explorers then begin to treat the clones like slaves. One commander decides they can't survive any longer, and plans to take Mars back. Ma'alefa'ak is their inside source.

Even reading New Frontier, you see things from J'onn's narrative POV. He sees how people are treated differently, and it's not confined to racism, but also cultural pride, nationalism, stereotypes, a common fear of the unknown.... all of which CAN wear the face of racism. There's a lot of demonizing that confuses and offends the Martian Manhunter, because from his outsider standpoint, we're a bunch of shallow-thinking bastards who are prejudiced against a lot of ideas. That's before people even discover his presence.

@Tainted87 That area goes behond just racism though. He would have something like that for all of our weaknesses. When I talked about racism I was refering solely to him being the victim, not the observer.

The 100 has some pretty damn good CGI, especially in space.
I'm impressed so maybe a MM show could work.

I think better justice would be done in film but meh TV could work too.

This definitely sounds intriguing so I would support this.

I really like the thought about dealing with racial issues but I don't think they would do it. The reason why I say that is because not that long ago before it got canceled there was Star Crossed. The show's premise was it was going to deal with race and it never really showed any. It showed a few things but really nothing deep. It was more of a family friendly version of District 9. You got to see the aliens living in slums but you never saw what was promised.

I would have enjoyed seeing the CW deal with that on Star Crossed but sadly it didn't happen. But seeing as this would be a DC Comic book character hopefully they would go deep into what J'onn has dealt with.

As for something like this having a chance of coming on CW. I would say they would be high. Maybe not this particular Martian Manhunter show but another one with J'onn. I would welcome this one though. The reason why I think a Martian Manhunter show is highly possible is because of Smallville. No matter what your opinion of that show is he was cool in it.

I also would make his human persona of a black person. This way it can show more of the racial issues in the show. Setting the show around the 50s or so J'onn could see how cruel man can be to his fellow man. So I think this show could be pretty special if done right. Also if CW even wanted you could have him cameo in Arrow. During the present period J'onn could talk about how far man has come since he has arrived on Earth.
