Matthew Vaughn (Layer Cake) has raised $30 million to develop KICK ASS as his indie project since Hollywood studios have worries about the violent nature of the project.

KICK ASS, written by Mark Millar and drawn by John Romita Jr., centers on a high school kid, Dave Lizewski, who sets out to be a super hero named Kick Ass though he has no real powers or abilities.

Some casting has already begun with Chloe Moretz set to play the 11-year old who fights bad guys with a ninja sword. Actor Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Superbad) is in negotiations for the role of Red Mist, the son of a mobster who's looking to reveal KICK ASS' identity.

Vaughn has written the movie adaptation with Jane Goldman. He is also producing the film through his Marv Films partner Kris Thykier.

They are looking to start up the project this fall.
