On The Success Of Kick-Ass:

"It did $100m on theatrical and a further $100m on DVD, but funnily enough we were disappointed: we wanted it to do on a parallel with Avatar which coined in at least £800m in America. The test-screenings were off the scale. They tested it in Los Angeles, Texas, New York and London, and in three of those places it got the highest-ever test screenings. We were thinking, hang on a minute, we’re onto something here."

On How The Critics Reacted To The Movie:

"It helped that Matthew is friends with Rupert Murdoch, whose family were great believers in the film. So The Sun didn’t give it a hard time. The worst was the Daily Mail critic, whose review was so over-the-top that it created a backlash from his own readers. His verdict on it was ‘Evil’. I wanted to use that on the back of the DVD, but they wouldn’t go along with it..."

On Casting The Right Unknowns In Miracle Park:

"Almost everyone was good, which I wasn’t expecting, and there were two or three real stand-outs. It was very heartening, because it made me realise I wasn’t crazy for shooting this on my own turf."

On The Experience Of Directing His Own Movie:

"It’s been the most fun I have ever had, and I’ve been doing this since I was 19. Maybe because it’s unfamiliar ground for me, I don’t feel as if I’m retreading old ground. Directing feels like comics, but more exciting in a way: you’re dealing with people as opposed to sketches on a pad. Two hundred things can go wrong at any one time because you’re dealing with lighting and sound and so on, and that’s what makes it a rush. We have about 20% of the film in the can and will hopefully have filming done by Christmas."

On Tony Scott Directing Nemesis:

"Getting to work with him is amazing, you always wonder why he has not done a comic-book movie"

God I hope the Millar trolls done emerge again and try and say Millar's sold out blah blah blah. He's not really sold out when it's him funding everything.

@fenlion..he was just kidding. They made their money back from the investment.

@Jay....I can't stand Millar trolls, they need to keep their yaps shut. The man is a mad genius and all his works are brilliant. I support all his original works and anything that isn't part of the Ultimate Universe. I can't wait to see Miracle Park, A found Footage super hero movie...BRILLIANT!!!!!

@anil..thats true. I mean if your a hot commodity then its business, not selling out. I mean War Heroes film sadly died down but we are getting Nemesis...FREAKING NEMESIS...made into a movie.

YOU GO MILLAR!!!! I would die if I interviewed him, this is the man who made me love reading comics, I would be speechless if I met him.

Millar is a damn genius and responsible for some of the best comic books I've ever read. The Ultimates, Nemesis, Marvel Knights Spider-Man, Kick-Ass, Old Man Logan...there really are too many to mention. I love reading these interviews and hope he goes back and does some more Marvel work in the near future because Civil War is still the best event they've ever done IMO.

I don't know why people always say Millar is a sell out. If anything he has taken the indie route. A majority of his work at the minute is published through Icon. An off shoot of Marvel, with much of the same workings as Image Comics has. Creators fund the project themselves, no payment up front and they receive all of the profit. Thats as independent as you can get, shy of just going F**K it i'm going to make my own comic company.

Working on licensed characters is as close as you can really get to selling out in the comic medium. Is Geoff Johns selling out? The closest Millar has gotten to selling out is when Wanted was originally optioned, because if you had made a comic and someone wanted to give you money to make a movie, would you turn it down?

The guy knows how to publicise himself and his work to the best level. One of the biggest things MM has done for me to keep reading his stuff is to keep it at $3 a book. I love Bendis's run but I refuse to put down $4 for one of his indie books (minus Scarlet due to being a Maleev fan) Millar made a very good decision of keeping his comic prices low. And it worked, Kick-Ass 2 #1 was in the top 10 at diamond in october.

The only gripe I have with Millar is Superior, its so so but im still going to read it to see what he does with it. He's a great guy in real life (met him twice and he remembered me!) Really appreciative and isn't stuck up his own arse as many internet trolls believe.

If Millar didn't know how to advertise the internet would be screaming WHY ARENT YOU READING KICK-ASS/NEMESIS!? But because it's in the news people are against it for the sake of being against.

@Josh. Millar has done some good work, no doubt. But he isn't as great as everyone makes him out to be. Nemesis was just superficial shock value. Nothing more. There is little to no substance in that book.

He is mainly a shock value writer. And judging from the sales I suppose that is what people want nowadays.

Oh, and I did like Civil War, But I found HOUSE OF M to be a more enjoyable and original concept. Maybe that is just the X-Fan in me coming out.

@Jay. I like his stuff, but I don't think he is the end all writer. He is good, but his stuff lately hasn't had the substance it used to.

Normally I don't mind Millar spouting off, ussually because its pretty entertaining. But seriously? On par with Avatar's success? Dude is seriously trippin if he ever thought that.

@THEHARK Agreed to an extent, Superior is so so, Nemesis is readable but nothing amazing. I'll still defend Kick Ass 1&2 though and even with my criticisms i'm still reading them so he must be doing something right.

@Cainraw Man he's joshing, it's like when Stan Lee says people will go see the next Iron man movie just to see his cameo. Also note he said "We Wanted" rather than "We thought". Everyone wants to make $800 mil.
Theres a big difference between hoping something will be successful and thinking something will be successful. You can never put your goals too high with film making otherwise it's going to fail ala Punisher War Zone/The Losers.

Kick Ass was his only original thing I have like in a while.

I do think that Old Man Logan was brilliant

@Josh

I loved Civil War too! Probably one of my favorite series along with Old Man Logan. Have you read the entire "Road to Civil War"?!? I'm in the middle of it now...everything makes so much more sense!!! It really is AMAZING.

If it wasn't for him we probably wouldn't see the world being shaped the way it has in the 616 universe. It began with Civil War then lead to Secret Invasion, then Dark Reign, concluding in Siege and returning to the status quo with Heroic Age. From what anil ricky told me that after Miracle Park, Millar, Loeb, and one other guy are gonna present an idea to Quesada to shake up the 616 universe....what could it be?
