The Conduct Of CBM Users

Hello everyone.

Rather than writing about something I enjoy, and would like to share with others, I felt that my next article should be about something that is getting WAY out of hand here on ComicBookMovie.com. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the conduct of this site's users.

About a week or so ago, I sent an email to the site's "superiors", asking them how one user's comments should be regarded. I also apologized for the fact that I had used insults in the past to express my frustration at the incompetence of certain users. I didn't get anything back, which is fine, as I'm sure they have a lot sent to them on a regular basis, but I still feel that this issue shouldn't be brushed under the rug.

I honestly believe that CBM should really start cracking down on the people who fling insults at others just because they have the power of anonymity and "internet balls" at their disposal. Just because you can pretty much say whatever you want over the web and not be held accountable (personally) doesn't mean you should. The right to free speech is one thing, but when your comments section is nothing but a forum of hate and horribly repugnant insults, it doesn't exactly make the site look like a pleasant place to be.

Whether it be a matter of immaturity or just plain bitterness from people who were dealt a bad hand in life, I feel that CBM needs to do something about the infinite amount of insults that get flung across the site on a daily basis. All I ask is that CBM finds a way to completely block users who use foul language as a means of insult to others. If they can keep a civil tongue while stating their opinions then fine. But the second it turns to a hate fest, it should be "adios".

I hate to say it, but every so often, a month or two usually, somebody posts an article just like this, and the last major change were those troll button things you got for being reported, and we don't have those anymore.
I hate to say it, but this probably won't change anything, but what do I know?

@gamecreatorjj,

Thanks for commenting. I wish that weren't the case. I'm still going to say something though.

Optimist- While I agree with you about how some users go a little too far with insults, H.O.E.S.(<---clever) comment is certainly not "exhibit A". Sure, its sarcastic and mildly insulting, but his point is spot on- in other words, the world is full of assholes. Get used to it. You need to realize who is the bigger person and not let it get to you.
As far as comment regulation, CBM cannot, nor should it, regulate too much of the speech here. They have a code of conduct and those who break it consistently, are dealt with.
If we ignore the trolls, they will go away. Thats the best way to deal with them as they are only looking for attention. Keep feeding them and they will stay.

A lot of the hateful and angry comments posted on this site stem from the simple fact that everybody has an opinion. Before the internet, people kept their opinions to themselves. Now because modern people are way way WAY too sensitive, everything has to be politically correct. It's all a result of the "your opinion counts too" philosophy, which is incorrect. Opinions matter, but not the way everybody thinks they do.

Does that make any sense? Lol

Someone should write an article complaining about the pointlessness of people posting these articles. I jk. Seriously though, I'm not one for posting unconstructive comments on this site but you don't have the right to not be offended. If you can't deal with it stay out of the comments because there really isn't much that can be done about it. I for one love this site trolls an all!!

It's one thing to "troll" and spark an argument that "marvel sucks" or "nolan sucks" and it is something else to really, really offend someone. Attacking them on a personal level. Grif and others who say, "this sucks" etc. isn't really offensive, it's just an uncouth opinion, like Minusman said, people can be a-holes. Sometimes you need to challenge them but for the most part ignoring is the best option. People will eventually realize that the best way to have others respect and learn from your opinion is to do it respectfully. Except for mom jokes. ;)

Act like a real person. Have normal convos, not too many people on here have people skills. And their opinion is always the right one, keep that in mind. Not too many of them know how to look at it from different views besides their own.

you are right VIRLEMAN. How dare we ask for people to be considerate. How dare we ask for people to be nice to each other. We should all be terrible people because the world is terrible, there is no need to nice to one another or try to help the wolrd be better, lets just always be angry so people don't think we are gay. If we are nice, people will think we are gay, what will do if that happens? The world will end if there are considerate people! OH NO!

@VIRLEMAN Sissy is a deragatory term for homosexuals. Just letting you know. Kinda hard not to make a straw man arguement with you, you make it so easy.

@FanofSteel, actually sissy isn't a derogatory term for homosexuals. According to a thesaurus http://thesaurus.com/browse/sissy It's not even remotely on the list of synonyms. It's a derogatory term for wimpy men. A coward, cream puff. Overall general wimpyness, not sexual orientation. So if you are making it about that, you are making a straw man and playing the victim. Sissy is also the way little kids say sister. Or it's also a name, like Sissy Spacek. I agree we all need to be nicer but we also all need to not be looking to be offended.

@mickeyboosh87,

It may be pointless, I'll admit. But I would like to be able to have a meaningful discussion with people on here, without turning to insults. It happens sometimes, but it's a rarity.

@VIRILEMAN,

Though you were a bit of a smart ass in how you explained yourself, I agree. As for being dramatic, hey, there's nothing wrong with that every once in a while, is there?

I can handle it, believe it or not. In fact, for a long while I didn't comment. But then I decided to start doing it again, and I realized what a shithole this place can be.

But, if letting things just happen is the way of the game, then so be it.

Why not ask everyone who contributes articles or editorials to ask the audience to comment on the article/editorial only? Take the high road. The low foreheads that are slinging insults will do it or find a way to do it, no matter the rules.
