Warner Bros. Set Fedor Bondarchuk To Direct ODYSSEUS

The studio has hired Russian director Fedor Bondarchuk (Stalingrad) to helm their "large-scale" take on Homer's epic poem, The Odyssey. This one has been planned for a while, and now it seems we'll finally see Odysseus/Ulysses battle the Cyclops on the big screen.

Deadline report that Warner Bros. has hired Fedor Bondarchuk to direct Odysseus, their big screen adaptation of Homer’s poem "The Odyssey". The story follows Greek king Odysseus (better known to '80s cartoon fans as Ulysses) as he journeys home after the 10-year long Trojan war. encountering many perils and mythical beasts, including the Cyclops Polyphemus. The character was actually played by Sean Bean in the movie Troy, though that adaptation removed all fantasy elements from the story. Jeremy Doner is on script duties, with Gianni Nunnari, Bernie Goldmann and Shannon Gaulding producing.

Have no idea about the director, but the story was written for a blockbuster and it's being written by the guy who wrote the Killing, so this could actually be decent time at the movies.

All I remember from reading it in school was...they go to this one island, where they meet Circe. She transforms all his men into pigs and Odysseus bangs this chick all day, every day for like...years or something. Then one day, he wakes up and is all like "I must finish my mission!"

The moral of the story being....you can only bang a chick for so long before you get tired of her.

Ulysses 31, don't know if the US got that animated series, but it was a real gem from my childhhod. A Japanese-French collaboration, was a rare and pretty awesome 80's series.

Y'know what would be a better title that Odysseus? THE ODYSSEY.

Biblical tales are coming back to the big screen, there a cleopatra in the works with jolie playing her, ridley scotts Noah with bale in the title role and now this

Wow. You need to cut back on the glue sniffing, Nubase.

Awesome, ruin more great ancient Greek poems by turning them into stupid movies, YOU CAN DO IT!!!

And don't you dare tell me that I shouldn't judge before I see it, 100% of the movie adaptations of such myths turn out to be just stupid movies that are hardly based on the original story so [frick] off.

GREEK AND PROUD MOTHER[frick]ERS!!!!!

@McGee He actually [frick]s Circe for some days but it turns out that eveyday in her island is a whole year in the real world so he leaves her to go back to his wife Penelope and son Telemachus, who he saw as a baby and came back when he was 20!! What an amazing father :P

I have two distinct memories of that show; the Sisyphus episode and when all the crew members were floating in the ship in a coma state.

good times, good times.

I'm with DarkPheonix on this one. I just have a bad feeling it's gonna be more Clash of Titans or whatever that weak shit was.

@Alien that's hilarious that same line ran through my head as I was reading this!

@Brainiac13 & Mothchild - oh yeah, back in the day when theme tunes were theme tunes. I dunno if its just me but most TV series nowadays have totally forgettable music. I reckon Daft Punk were big fans as their animation circa Discovery album INterstella 5555 was very like U31.

@b&y I've said like a million times that we should ask for money for the movie rights!! But apparently, I guess since the writers are dead for centuries, we can't claim them...
