This from Cinemablend...

Suddenly watching Karl Urban outside of anything Star Trek seems wrong. He so perfectly embodied the character of Doctor McCoy that I find myself revolted at the thought of watching his playing anyone else. It almost feels disloyal. I wonder if I’ll still be able to enjoy "Lord of the Rings," or for that matter, the upcoming comic book adaptation "Priest" in which THR says he’s been cast as the villain.

"Priest" is set in a post-apocalyptic future where the world has been blasted by a war between men and vampires. Paul Bettany is already set to play a warrior priest (what is it with his playing violent religious figures?) who teams up with a Sheriff and a warrior priestess to save his niece from garlic-haters. In particular he’ll be saving her from Karl Urban, as Black Hat, the nasty vampire leader.

He was great in LOTR, "Riddick," and "Star Trek," and pretty much everything he does so he'll do this excellently too.

You know I really really liked the idea behind Pathfinder, but I really hated the movie. Vikings crossing the Atlantic, and fighting the Indians. That's awesome!

That being said I certainly can't share Watchtower13's trepidation about Urban in a new role. I heven't seen all of his movies but in the ones I have seen he either did decently well or totaly knocked it out of the ball park and pwned the role. In fact he might even upstage Bettany in terms of performance lol

So this is excellent news.

escellent news as well. he was great in doom and pathfinder. the movies.....meh. i think start trek defeinately opened some bigger doors for him though. he was basically univerally seen as the best part of that movie.

Darth- I actually agree with every single thing you just said. Urban "CAN" upstage bettany. I for one like bettany but people do tend to "over-hype" him.

Teabag- Well i liked Urban in Pathfinder but the movie itself wasn't that good. If i had only rented it i could have enjoyed it more but i paid freakin 10$ for it, and it wasn't worth half of that.

I was wanting to see Conan taking on The Vikings type of film... so you can see my dissapointment.

superdog- I didn't even get to see Star Trek yet but i'm really happy to hear you say that. First time i heard it :))

He was great in LOTR, Bourne Supremacy and he was by far the best thing in Trek! I never saw Doom and Pathfinder was pretty awful..and i didn't particurlarly think he was very good in it either but he was working with rubbish.

Good point Roar! And wow, two votes for Urban as Best thing in Trek!!! That kick's ass!!! People will soon cry over him not being Thor, that's for sure. He would have owned that character even though Hemsworth could be good.

yeah Ill tell you what. He wasn't even considered for Thor, but I wouldn't have been against it at all. I don't know what Hemsworth will do but we all saw Urban ROCK OUT as Eomer. Even as far back as when I was in the theater watching LOTR for the first time, I saw that long blonde hair coming out of the helmet and I though "damn. It's Thor." So I do agree, Shaman.

True, he's one of the few male actors that isn't 50 who actually has a natural comanding presence. That would have shined for the god of thunder. Think he could be concidered for Cap??? That'd be weird but i wouldn't be against it that much. IMO he doesn't fit all the requirements to a "T" but... most of them :)

I like him in anything I've ever seen him in, and he was THE ONLY redeeming quality in DOOM. And Pathfinder wasn't that bad, but better action woulda been cool. So yeah, shoot me twice.

I'm new here (though I've been reading for like 6 months), and now I shall go about endearing myself to the current - I dunno, what do you call him? the class clown? the mascot? of the site (LEE777)... I think Urban would rock anyone's socks off for Cap, including Sam Worthington's hehe.

I'll be the last to call REDO on that casting poll!

You guys know... I think Shaman is seriously on to something. I hadn't even considered him for Cap, but I think you hit the nail on the head. I dont't even think it occured to me, because he is chameleon like - I'll confess if I hadn't have been reading this site when TRek came out I'd never have known that was the same guy in LOTR.

Yeah man, you've got to see Star Trek... Off the top of my head, one of his line's is the only one I could remember, and I went around acting, or trying to act like Bones saying that over and over after seeing it. But I won't spoil it for you.

By the way, LEE, if you read this - I think Worthington was born to play Cable if he bulks up and goes platinum. And I know you love him so much, you should go read this month's Vanity Fair (I don't regularly read that, but I saw it at the grocery store and picked it up because Worthington was on the cover) good, long, very illuminating interview.
