PUNISHER Film Ideas

PUNISHER Film Ideas

To give you all a break from the Affleck/Batman articles, I've decided to list some ideas on possible stories, castings, etc. of the potential Punisher film.

Sorry in advance, I haven't mastered posting pics yet, but I'm working on it.

Story: Ray Stevenson expressed interest in doing a sequel featuring Barracuda as a villain. I'm in favor of that. I think Barracuda could be an awesome villain to see, and could engage Castle in a gunfight, or a brutal hand to hand bout. As an ex-gangster and ex-Green Berret, he is a formidable opponent for Punisher.

Writer:David S. Goyer
While this may be a very (very, very) over used choice, there is no doubt that David S. Goyer can write dark comicbook tales. With the Dark Knight Trilogy and Blade Trilogy under his belt, along with countless others including Man of Steel and its up coming sequel, its safe to say The Punisher would be in very good hands.

Director: James Mangold
Hear me out, The Wolverine was not flawless. But it was great movie. One of the many things that appealed to me was how they kept this "soldier' theme. If you've seen The Wolverine you'll know what I'm talking about. Also, Greg Rucka used a similar theme during his recent Punisher arc. I think Mangold would have an interesting take.

Casting:
Frank Castle/Punisher-Ray Stevenson or Joe Manganiello
Reasoning: I think Ray Stevenson gave a brutal portrail of the Punisher, and I would like to see him return. Also, I'm looking for a seasoned looking actor to play Castle. However, if MARVEL decides to reboot completely, then I would go for the younger Manganiello. It would have to be an origin or early on in his career. Both men have a muscular build and could play very intimidating characters.

Det. Soap-Dash Mihok or Elijah Wood
If this is a sequel as opposed to a reboot, then I would bring back Dash Mihok as Det. Soap. He could be the comedic relief and to make the movie dramatic, Barracuda could kill him. If its a reboot, get someone known for comedy and looks like (for lack of better words) a loser. If a reboot I'd say Elijah Wood for Soap. Also, if this is a reboot then Soap won't die, he'll just be in danger.

Harry Ebbing-Michael Douglas
In the comics, Harry Ebbing is a corrupt CEO who the Punisher is closing in on. He hires Barracuda to eliminate the Punisher. As soon as I see "corrupt CEO" I automatically think Michael Douglas.

Barracuda-Dwayne The Rock Johnson
I have seen a lot of Rock's movies, and I feel he is an incredible actor if given the right direction. I think he could bring a ruthlessness to Barracuda if a proper director pushed him. He already portrayed a thug turned Special Ops in GIJoe Retaliation. Also in GIJ:R, he had great fight scene chemistry with Stevenson, and looked physically superior. And if Manganiello is Castle, while they're roughly the same height, Rock looks like he outmuscles him.

Now if MARVEL plans on during a street level universe as part of the MCU, I would also introduce Kingpin into this movie. There are a few picks, so vote your favorite in the comments and I'll cast him in my DareDevil FanFic
For Kingpin, I'd say either:

1.John Goodman
2.Phillip Seymour Hoffman
3.Denzel Washington
4.Bruce Willis
5.Bryan Cranston

Sound off below and let me know what you think. I have a whole street level phase planned.

Thanks! I appreciate the kind words. Punisher is in my top 5 favorite heroes. I think the Thomas Jane one was better, and I liked him more as Punisher, but since Stevenson was more recent I went with him.

Ray Stevenson was really the only redeeming quality of Warzone but I want to see someone new. My top choices are Gerard Butler or Liev Screiber. Joe Manganiello is way too young for the Punisher.

I like your ideas though.

Ray Stevenson definitely needs to voice the Punisher if they ever made an animated movie featuring the Punisher. He voiced the Punisher on the Super Hero Squad and even though the show is sill his voice is awesome.

@SUPERBATSPIDERMAN
Never considered Schreiber, but I could definitely see that, especially after "Ray Donovan." Gerard Butler was like the Punisher in "Law Abiding Citizen" so I could get behind him.

@WeaponX93 - I always thought of it this way for Gerard Butler as the Punisher. If you combine his characters from Law Abiding Citizen and Olympus Has Fallen (and maybe Gamer) then you would have the perfect Punisher. Liev Schreiber is my second choice mainly because he has a badass voice and tough guy demeanor also he is awesome on Ray Donovan.

My Punisher pick would be Jim Caviezel. On Person of Interest, he basically plays the Punisher already. I think Cranston would be a good Kingpin.
Morbius

Stevensen was an excellent Castle and I never thought of Jonson as Barracuda that would be great!!!!!!

I like your cast but I'm not a fan of Ray as Punisher. He's Volstagg.

I prefer Jane or maybe Jon Hamm.

I think the primary problem is that you can no longer simply plop an extrodinary character into a real world environment, even if it's a fantasy based marvel universe based on reality - unless that character is extraterrestial (i.e. Thor etc..).

There needs to be a "birth" of that character - similiar to how Nolan focused on the creation of Batman in the first movie... similiar to the creation of Bourne, the creation of Neo, the creation of Iron Man etc..

The Punisher films have always jumped right into the middle - ignoring the creation, and thus alienating any bond the audience might feel with the character.

If there is a reboot, as suggested above, it should build out the character... Vietnam War would most likely need to change to a more modern warn... but show his time there, and show the empowerment of the soldier as judge/jury/executioner; then transition him back to the normal life and build up the frustration, anger and helplessness of being a normal citizen and watching the world around him burn. Personally, I think the first movie of a reboot should end with him reactively "exploding" to an event that triggers all is built up anger/rage... maybe the death of his family.

I think as a result of that reaction, and his vengeance on those responsible, there should be collateral damage and innocent bystandards that are killed/hurt - the movie should end with the audience conflicted about him being good or bad.. and set the stage for the molding of his anger in the follow up films.
