CRIMES OF THE FUTURE Trailers Give Us A First Glimpse Into David Cronenberg's Nightmarish World

Two trailers for David Cronenberg's highly-anticipated Crimes of the Future have been released, giving us a first glimpse of some footage from the legendary director's return to his body-horror best.

Confirming recent rumors, David Cronenberg's Crimes of the Future was officially selected to premiere in-competition at the Cannes Film Festival, and two trailers were released to accompany the announcement.

The domestic teaser introducers the main characters while giving us an intriguing glimpse of some nightmarish footage, but the international version gives us a much better idea of what to expect, as an investigator named Timlin (Kristen Stewart) becomes involved with notorious performance artist Saul Tenser (Viggo Mortensen) and his partner Caprice (Léa Seydoux).

Check out both trailers below along with a poster, and let us know what you think.

The film is set "in a distant future where humans have evolved beyond their natural state and into a metamorphosis, altering their biological makeup. In this setting, a performance artist named Saul Tenser embraces Accelerated Evolution Syndrome, sprouting new and unexpected organs in his body. Removing those organs becomes a new kind of theater, one that earns a following, as well as the attention of the government."

It really doesn't get any more Cronenbergian than that!

Viggo Mortensen will re-team with Cronenberg after starring in A History of Violence, Eastern Promises and A Dangerous Method. He'll be joined by Kristen Stewart, Léa Seydoux, Scott Speedman, Welket Bungué, Don McKellar and Lihi Kornowski.

I see Cronenberg, I'm there. He's the master of body horror, but also gritty character studies like History of Violence and Eastern Promises. THE HYPE IS REAL

I still can't get over Cronenberg's acting in Star Trek Discovery. He was not only well cast in a somewhat important recurring role, but his acting ain't bad either.

@Mugens - he was excellent as a serial killing therapist in Clive Barker's Nightbreed

This trailer played like a greatest hits montage of all things Cronenberg. Anyone who follows his work just went nuts spotting his favorite actors, tropes and effects. Even got back his 80s cinematography feel he lost in his more modern films. This is the hardest Cronenberg has ever Cronenberged.

Imagine if Kristen Stewart gets cast as Vicki Vale in a batman sequel and that relationship gets more attention with the public than batman and catwoman.
