Confirming recent rumors, David Cronenberg's Crimes of the Future was officially selected to premiere in-competition at the Cannes Film Festival, and two trailers were released to accompany the announcement.
The domestic teaser introducers the main characters while giving us an intriguing glimpse of some nightmarish footage, but the international version gives us a much better idea of what to expect, as an investigator named Timlin (Kristen Stewart) becomes involved with notorious performance artist Saul Tenser (Viggo Mortensen) and his partner Caprice (Léa Seydoux).
Check out both trailers below along with a poster, and let us know what you think.
The film is set "in a distant future where humans have evolved beyond their natural state and into a metamorphosis, altering their biological makeup. In this setting, a performance artist named Saul Tenser embraces Accelerated Evolution Syndrome, sprouting new and unexpected organs in his body. Removing those organs becomes a new kind of theater, one that earns a following, as well as the attention of the government."
It really doesn't get any more Cronenbergian than that!
Viggo Mortensen will re-team with Cronenberg after starring in A History of Violence, Eastern Promises and A Dangerous Method. He'll be joined by Kristen Stewart, Léa Seydoux, Scott Speedman, Welket Bungué, Don McKellar and Lihi Kornowski.
