This September, a 4-issue comic from writer Kelly Thompson and artist Marco Checchetto, titled Star Wars: Captain Phasma, will explain how the Stormtrooper leader escaped the trash compactor and the destruction of Starkiller Base at the end of The Force Awakens. This development seemingly refutes fan theories that Phasma has numerous clones and it's one of her doppelgangers that wil be appearing in The Last Jedi.

The series will be one of the several titles that comprise the Journey to Star Wars: The Last Jedi publishing initiative that will help bridge the story and action between Episode VII and Episode VIII.

On the miniseries, Thompson stated, "It’s exciting enough when someone lets you contribute to the Star Wars universe in any real way, but when they let you create the first ever Phasma story for comics? Well, that’s about as good as it gets! Like most, I’m a huge fan of both Gwendoline Christie and Phasma. Christie is magnetic and Phasma has so much fascinating untapped potential…potential which I can’t wait to help unlock for fans in our comic."

Other comics and novels that comprise the Journey to Star Wars: The Last Jedi publishing program include:
  • Phasma (adult novel)
  • Leia: Princess of Alderaan (YA novel)
  • The Legends of Luke Skywalker (junior novel)
  • A Leader Named Leia (kid's book)
  • Star Wars: Captain Phasma (comic)
  • Star Wars Adventures (comic)

She never should have been put in the trash compactor. Stupid move and waste of a good charector. I wish them luck trying to salvage her afte that major [frick] up

Unless she is a spy, which would be awesome.

@BillCipher999 - She ended up in the trash compactor so they could serve it up to the Fanboys.........you know to pay tribute to the first movie.....which The Force Awakens was just a rehash of.....never mind.

No interest in the character. They intentionally turned the character into a joke in the previous movie. The same to an extent with Kylo.

@Scarilian - The whole movie was a joke IMO.....trust me I am happy that so many people enjoyed the movie and were able to breath some life back in SW...but come on such a lazy story.

I did love Rogue One!

@JoeMomma29 -

Rogue One was unnecessary, but had some good spaceship scenes - and the Vader scene. Even if the Vader scenes made his original trilogy fight with Obi Wan look even more bland/boring.

@Scarilian - For the life of me I can't figure out why people think Kylo was a joke. That wasn't juvenile petulance when he was smashing controls it was years of pent up rage. I dig it. The dude cemented himself as a full-on bamf the second he murdered his father in cold blood right in front of him. That's when I was like Ok Kylo, I see you..damn

@Scarilian - remember the first fight was done with extremely low budget and they were just starting to figure it out.
