Jyn Erso Actress Felicity Jones Thinks Her ROGUE ONE Character Has More Story To Tell

Despite seemingly meeting her demise in 2016's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, could there be more adventures for Jyn Erso on the way? Actress Felicity Jones certainly hopes that's the case.

Despite a very rocky production, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story went on to earn over a billion dollars at the global box office and a 84% Rotten Tomatoes score. Given the troubles with the new trilogy, could Disney and LucasFilm look to return to a more successful Star Wars project?

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about her role in the Netflix space thriller The Midnight Sky, Jones shared her thoughts about potentially reprising her role as Erso.

"I just keep saying that reincarnation is totally possible in the Star Wars universe. (Laughs). So, I feel there's unfinished business for Jyn, for sure. I think it would be fascinating to see her getting older and wiser and fighting the dark forces in the universe, of which there are many it seems."

While this might sound like a bit of wishful thinking, Rogue One writer Gary Whitta did reveal that it was originally planned for Erso and Captain Cassian Andor to survive as a "a rebel ship came down and got [Jyn and Cassian] off the surface. The transfer of the plans happened later. They jumped away and later [Leia’s] ship came in from Alderaan to help them. The ship-to-ship data transfer happened off Scarif."

Over the year, numerous Star Wars characters have seemingly met their demise only to return in one form or fashion. That's especially true when it comes to the animated Star Wars shows so there's definitely precedence for Erso to make her return in that medium.

The film future of Star Wars is a bit murky at the moment following what could only be called a disastrous four year run for the new trilogy which resulted in Lucasfilm and Disney deciding that the best course of action would be to retreat from the filmsphere and focus exclusively on television projects. Aside from The Mandalorian, there's an Obi-Wan Kenobi and a Cassian Andor prequel series in development that were both slated to begin production soon before the coronavirus pandemic reared its ugly head. Interestingly enough, there's also an Untitled female-centric Star Wars series in development from Russian Doll co-creator Leslye Headland so perhaps Eryso shows up there?

Hopefully, Star Wars fans won't have to wait until May 4 (Star Wars Day) to learn what the future of the franchise holds outside of beskar armor and Baby Yoda.

@dracula - The one time I watched it, I thought it was dreadfully boring. I just wanted to mash the skip cutscene button the whole time.

Good space battle, though.

@JustAChillFan - Maybe a sequel will start with her pulling a mary poppins like Leia, her mom was a jedi

Well we saw the end of her story, so not really, but I guess a prequel could work, although would need a younger actress, would make sense to either pick up with her as a child with Saw Gerrera or pick up right before he abandons her and continue on right after he leaves her.

I'd be OK with this.

@MUTO123 - could see her as The Huntress in a good Birds Of Prey movie, where Huntress isn't just a walking angry person who has no relevance to the plot until the final battle.

Man more I think of Birds Of Prey, the more i dislike it. Worst part was cassandra cain

@dracula - MEW could have been fine. Hodson dropped the ball with the script, per usual.

@inkniron - yeah im sure MEW could have done just fine as a comic accurate Huntress, mostly meant my comment as an alternative, like if they reboot stuff or if MEW hadn't been cast in the role

I mean.. it’s not like Star Wars hasn’t brought people back after death. Maul’s death was even more definitive and he came back.

However... does anyone really care? I didn’t even remember her name until this article reminded me haha

I actually came to like the characters in Rogue One more after one movie than I did the characters in the new trilogy after three movies.

could see Idris Elba as a young Saw Gerrera if they wanted to do a prequel to Rogue One, although if they went that route, probably wouldn't include Jynn in any form, unless they are fine with ignoring young Saw being played by Forest at the beginning of Rogue One

One of the few things I really liked about Rogue One is they had the balls to kill all of the good guys in the end. If they try to retcon that, and convince us that she survived getting annihilated by the Death Star, I’m out.

Leave it alone. The film is great as it is, and cleanly wraps things up before Star Wars. The cast were more interesting and showed better development than Rey and company. While I would have liked to see more of them, it would end up making a mess of things.

Rogue 1 is one of the few bright spots during the period of this last trilogy.

The trailers made me think I was going to hate her character. Literally the opposite. She was fantastic, the character was brilliant. But her story, though short-lived and incredible, is over.
