Following the release of The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent last year, Nicolas Cage's star is once again on the rise thanks to a movie that reminded us all why we love the actor so much.
As his career resurgence continues, the Kick-Ass and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse actor was recently asked if he would be open to joining the Star Wars Universe. While not necessarily a natural fit on the surface, you'd think that would be a dream gig for an actor who has played Ghost Rider, Spider-Man, and even came close to suiting up Superman.
However, he's clearly not interested!
"I'm not really down. I'm a Trekkie, man," he admits in the video below (via SFFGazette.com), revealing his love of Star Trek. Praising both William Shatner and Chris Pine's respective performances, he'd go on to say, "I like the political and the sociological...to me, what I think science fiction is all about...and Star Trek really embraced that. They got into some serious stuff."
It's pretty common for movie fans to love either Star Wars or Star Trek instead of both, and Cage clearly falls into the latter's fandom. As the interviewer points out, Pedro Pascal has tried to convince Cage to head into a Galaxy Far, Far Away with him, but the living legend simply isn't interested!
Hopefully, he'll get a shot at stepping aboard the Enterprise one day, but with the troubled Star Trek 4 still no closer to becoming a reality at this stage, we won't hold our breath. The franchise has found great success on television, but Cage has yet to really embark on many small screen roles as a bona fide movie star.
Who do you think Cage would be a good fit to play in a future Star Trek film?
