STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI Director Rian Johnson Reveals That Joseph Gordon-Levitt Is In The Movie

We've heard rumblings that The Dark Knight Rises star Joseph Gordon-Levitt had landed a secret role in Star Wars: The Last Jedi and director Rian Johnson has now revealed how much we'll see of him...

Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson is currently promoting the movie in Japan and during a Q&A about the highly anticipated sequel, the filmmaker reportedly revealed that Joseph Gordon-Levitt has a mystery role. This was rumoured to be the case some time ago and Johnson confirmed that The Dark Knight Rises star will be doing a voiceover (the director reportedly indicated that he's an alien).

This news shouldn't come as too big of a surprise as Levitt has appeared in all of Johnson's films and ever since Daniel Craig popped up in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, high profile cameos like this one have become a staple of the current trilogy. We'll now have to keep our eyes peeled this December!

Johnson was also asked about the recent reports that he'll direct Star Wars Episode IX. Only a very rough translation is doing the rounds but the gist of it is that he can't really talk about what's happening, is currently focused on The Last Jedi, and is waiting to see what happens with the movie.

He'll be doing the press rounds in America and the UK come December, so hopefully, Lucasfilm will clear things up soon. What do you guys think about this news? Share your thoughts down below.

@TheSoulEater - I kind of wish JJ brought back his Into Darkness star Benedict Cumberbatch for Kylo Ren.
I remember there were rumors Benedict was being considered for the role

Naw man, if he was going to be anyone JJ'd cast him as Snoke, first off he's too old for the Ren they had in mind, second, I'm glad cause i'd want him to be Thrawn.

@Elayem - Naw man, he's too old for the Kylo they wanted, and if JJ was going to cast him as anyone, knowing him it would've been as Snoke.

But hey this means Cumberbatch can be Thrawn.

@TheSoulEater - I liked Adam Driver in the role. He come of very similar to the character of Zuko from Avatar The Last Airbender (cartoon not movie). That's a good villain/anti-hero to take inspiration from.

@TheSoulEater - Good point.
As far as Thrawn though, might as well go with the Rebels voice actor, Mads Mikkelsen's brother. He kills it as Thrawn and has the real life looks and acting skills for it.

@Elayem - Cumberbatch would've been a good choice for General Hux but Adam Driver is great as Kylo Ren. He has that right balance of awkwardness, menace, and unfocused rage. Ren is supposed to be conflicted and unhinged as he struggles between the dark side and the light side of the force. It's an interesting twist as he's struggling with resisting the draw to the light side of the force whereas his grand father who he idolizes struggled with the draw to the dark side of the force.

While I agree with that, i feel like he and the lines chosen didn't mesh well as where I could see JGL delivering them better while still being as vulnerable.

Again no offense to Driver, and i do like him as an actor.

I would ADORE if Lars Mikkelson played Thrawn, I just don't know if Disney would do that. ( i hope they do though)

I wish Tom Hardy had an actual substantial role in this movie, rather than a stormtrooper cameo.

Hardy is one of the most exciting current actors for me

I hope he is playing Spike Spiegel in a cameo role in a tavern somewhere in space!

I think he is perfect for a human role in star wars. But an alien is cool too

Noice. I'm guessing it will be a role similar to Simon Pegg where he is hard to pick out.

Joseph Gordon Levitt is one of those rare actors that despite getting a lot of praise, I don't think is actually overrated. Not underrated either. He is properly rated.

Also: this thread desperately needs some Third Rock gifs.
