Do androids dream of electric sheep?

Following its debut during last week's Sundance Film Festival, A24 has released the first trailer for Korean director Kogonada's (Columbus) soulful sci-fi drama, After Yang.

The movie stars Colin Farrell (The Batman, Dumbo) and Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen and Slim, Without Remorse) as a married couple whose “techno-sapien” Yang (Justin H. Min) begins to malfunction. Yang is a lot more than just the robotic help, however, as he serves as a sibling of sorts to their young daughter Mika (Malea Emma Tjandrawidjaja).

As Jake searches for a way to repair Yang, he "discovers the life that has been passing in front of him, reconnecting with his wife and daughter across a distance he didn’t know was there."

Based on the short story Saying Goodbye To Yang by Alexander Weinstein, Kogonada's second feature has been garnering rave reviews. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think.

After Yang is set to debut on Showtime on March 4, and will also get a limited theatrical release.

Columbus was one of my favorites that year. Looking forward to this one. Kogonada is a good director.

It's atmospheric. Beautifully shot. I just wish there was more of the plot in the trailer. Or maybe that's all there is to the plot. Their "techno-sapien" is dying and the family is coming to grips with that. Maybe that's the beginning, middle and end of the entire plot. I just wish there was more movement in it. The trailer doesn't give us any forward momentum at all. Just atmosphere. Beautifully shot film. I just don't know if it's something I'd want to devote two hours to.

@BecauseICare - luckily for you it's only 1 hour 40 then! Kogonada's style is very much about atmosphere, but it's a wonderful one to embrace. Check out Columbus, gorgeous film. If you like that then i'm sure you'll like this (i've not seen After Yang - basing this off reviews)

Suuuuper jacked for this. Columbus is a beautiful, melancholy exercise in welcoming life's stillness. Irritating this is another that's going straight to Showtime. Humans suffered the same fate and went virtually unseen

Looks boring. I didn't see any car chases or spaceships or explosions in it.
