Anyone, familiar with Dune would know that it's an epic series of novels that takes place well over 10,000 years in the future. It's also seen big screen and small screen attempts to tell the story. We now have an upcoming attempt at a big screen adaptation with a lesser known action director at the helm. Pierre Morel, who is mostly known by his films "Taken" and "From Paris with Love." Paramount studios came to him after the previously planned director Peter Berg left the project to take on "Battleship" the game-movie? Good riddance.
Morel has already stated that he is a fan and plans a more faithful approach to the novel. He has thrown out Berg's script and has started from scratch. Taking care of the look and technology, they're talking with design concepts, futurists, and scientists to see how things may evolve. The movie will be faster and more modern, with some battles mentioned in the book presented more in depth.
Now, I did like some of the casting choices and sets for the Lynch movie. The cheese and gross factor was too high. The Sci-Fi version was more faithful but very low budget. What I hear from Morel so far sounds very promising. I can see this movie become a big budget franchise if done right. I believe a lot of emphasis should be placed on the casting for this one. It is a big cast.
